How to Apply for Driving License

One can easily apply for a learner’s driving license online by following some simple steps-

Visit Sarathi website of the Road Transport & Highways Ministry.
In “Sarathi Services,” select “New Driving license.”
Read the instructions and download the form
Fill all the required information in the downloaded form as per the instructions provided on the screen and click on ‘Submit’
In case the applicant is a minor, the form is to be printed out and Part D is to be filled out and signed by the parent/guardian at the nearest RTO
Upload copies of the required documents along with the completed application form
A Web Application Number is generated on successful upload
After the application is processed, a notification for the issuance of the learner’s license is sent via SMS

How to Apply for Driving License Offline?

Obtain Form 4 from the state transport website or the nearest RTO
Submit the duly filled form along with the required documents for age and address proof at the RTO in whose jurisdiction your residence lies.
Also, fix a slot for the driving license test at the RTO and pay the fee for the test
After you clear the test, a driving license will be either issued to you on the spot or will be sent your registered address

How to Apply for a Duplicate Driving License?

In case you lose or damage your driving license, you can apply for a duplicate copy by visiting the concerned RTO. However, before visiting the transport office, you need to visit a police station first and file a First Information Report (FIR) with the police. After obtaining the FIR, you need to visit the RTO with the copy of the report along with other supporting documents for identity proof and address proof. Next, you need to submit the fees for the issuance of a duplicate DL. After the documents are verified, a duplicate license is issued.

How to Apply for an International Driving License?

Getting an International Driving Licence (IDP) is very easy. To obtain an international DL, visit the concerned RTO and submit the below documents:

Duly-filled application form for international driving licence
Valid Indian driving licence
Receipt of fees paid for international driving license application
Medical clearance certificate
Identity proof
Proof of residence
Two passport size photographs
