Outline

The 2026 Hyundai Exter facelift is here, and at first glance, it may not look like a complete overhaul. But Hyundai has worked on multiple small areas like design tweaks, added features, and better safety, to keep it fresh in a very competitive micro-SUV space.

The big question is simple: is it actually worth your money now, or just a minor update? Let’s break down the new Hyundai Exter 2026 design, engine, features, and pricing, while also looking at what’s new, what stays, and what still feels missing.

2026 Hyundai Exter facelift design — Small changes, slightly better presence

From a distance, the Exter 2026 exterior doesn’t look completely different. It still has that tall and upright stance which makes it look like a proper small SUV rather than a hatchback.

What has changed is the detailing. Hyundai has redesigned the front and rear bumpers, added a new grille, and updated the alloy wheels as well. There’s also a new wing-style spoiler at the back. Along with this, Hyundai has added new colours like Golden Bronze and Titanium Black Matte. While continuing with existing options such as Titan Grey, Atlas White, Starry Night, Titanium Black, Ranger Khaki, and Ranger Khaki with a Black roof (dual-tone).

New Hyundai Exter interior — Has it evolved?

Inside the Hyundai Exter facelift cabin, the changes are more noticeable. The new dual-tone navy and grey theme along with the 3D carbon-pattern dashboard, gives it a fresher feel compared to the older model. However, the layout remains the same.

At the same time, this is not a big design upgrade. If you park the old and new models together, the difference is not dramatic. Some rivals still look more modern and bold, especially in terms of lighting and overall styling. So in terms of design, this is more of a polish than a transformation.

Hyundai Exter facelift engine & Performance – No change, still reliable

There are no changes under the hood and Hyundai has continued with the same 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine. It comes with both manual and AMT options, along with the CNG version for those who want better running costs.

This engine has always been known for being smooth and refined and that continues here. In fact, it still stands out because it is a 4-cylinder engine, while many rivals are using 3-cylinder setups.

But nothing has improved in terms of performance. It is still not a powerful car, and if you expect quick acceleration or highway punch, it will feel average. There is also no turbo option, which some competitors offer, and the AMT gearbox is still not as smooth as a proper automatic.

Hyundai Exter 2026 features & Safety

This is one area where the new Hyundai Exter actually sees the biggest improvement. Hyundai has added more features and made the cabin feel more modern and up-to-date.

One of the standout additions is the dashcam, something you don’t usually see in this segment. Along with that, you now get a new Type-C USB port for rear passengers, Bluelink with more than 60 connected features, over 300 embedded voice commands, a new D-cut steering wheel, a folding driver armrest, and an underbody-mounted spare wheel.

The cabin also includes an 8-inch HD audio video navigation system, a digital cluster with colour TFT MID, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, metal pedals, keyless entry, an electric sunroof, rear AC vents, fully automatic climate control, and a rear wiper and washer, among others.

Safety continues to be a strong point. The Exter now offers over 45 safety features, with more than 30 being standard — including six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, hill assist, and rear parking sensors across variants. This gives it a clear edge over many rivals, especially at the lower end of the price range.

That said, a few things are still missing. There are no ventilated seats, the infotainment screen isn’t the largest in the segment, and advanced driver assistance features are not on offer. So while it covers the basics and safety really well, it’s not the most feature-loaded option out there.

The New Exter base price starts from Rs 5.8 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.5 lakh, which is quite a wide range. At the lower end, the Exter makes strong sense because you are getting SUV styling and good safety at a reasonable price.

The mid variants are where the value is strongest. In this range, you get most of the important features along with the updated design and safety package. At the top end, the price starts getting close to bigger and more powerful cars. This is where the value becomes slightly weaker, because even though you get more features, the engine and overall size remain the same.

So the Exter is clearly a better deal in the mid-range variants rather than the fully loaded ones.

New Hyundai Exter facelift – Worth it or not?

The 2026 Hyundai Exter facelift does not try to change everything. Instead, it improves the car in small but important ways. The design is slightly better, the features list is stronger, and the safety package is more complete.

At the same time, the engine and overall driving experience remain unchanged, and that may not work for buyers looking for something more exciting or powerful. Compared to the older version, this feels like a more refined and complete product, but not a completely new one.

In the end, the Exter still works best as a practical city SUV that is easy to drive, comfortable and well-equipped. It is definitely worth considering, especially in the mid variants, but it is not the strongest option if performance or top-end value is your priority.
