The next-generation Hyundai i20 has leaked online in what appears to be production-spec form. This is the clearest look yet at how significantly Hyundai is changing its popular hatchback. The images, which surfaced ahead of an official global debut expected soon, reveal both the exterior and interior in full. The new I20 breaks noticeably from the current i20 in terms of design philosophy, moving towards a more upright, crossover-inspired form.

2027 Hyundai i20 design that leans into SUV territory

The leaked test mule shots that had previously circulated showed a heavily camouflaged vehicle with broad proportions and a raised stance. The now-revealed production-spec images of the upcoming Hyundai i20 confirm what those early sightings suggested. The fourth-generation i20 takes a distinctly crossover-oriented approach. The front end features slim headlamps integrated into a wide, flat fascia with a minimalist look. There is no busy chrome work, and the overall face is cleaner and more flush than the current model.

At the sides, the body features sharp creases, blacked-out pillars and prominent wheel arches that reinforce the squared-off, muscular character. The rear carries connected LED tail lamps running the width of the car, a design element that has become common across Hyundai's lineup. The silhouette as a whole is noticeably boxier and more upright than the outgoing model.

Hyundai i20 New interior with panoramic curved display

The next-gen Hyundai i20 cabin transformation is arguably bigger than the exterior changes. Leaked interior images show a new dashboard layout built around a panoramic curved display unit that combines the digital instrument cluster and the infotainment touchscreen in a single wide housing. This is very similar to what Hyundai introduced in the Venue, and it brings a significantly more technology-forward feel to the i20's cabin.

Physical controls have been retained for key functions, suggesting Hyundai has not gone all-touchscreen. The centre console looks cleaner and more modern, while the steering wheel is clearly new and reflects Hyundai's current global design direction. Door pads feature a fresh dual-tone treatment with circular speaker housings and redesigned grab handles. The dashboard architecture overall feels more premium and purposeful compared to the current generation.

2027 Hyundai i20 dimensions are likely improved

While full dimensions are not yet known, the taller roofline and boxier proportions visible in the leaked images suggest the new i20 could offer improved headroom and rear-seat space. The boot appears spacious in leaked images and the rear seats retain a split-fold arrangement for cargo flexibility. These improvements, if confirmed, would address some of the more common criticisms of the current i20 in terms of rear-seat space.

4th-gen Hyundai i20 powertrain and India plans

Hyundai i20

Hyundai has not yet disclosed technical specifications ahead of the official debut. For global markets, the next-gen i20 is expected to continue with turbocharged petrol engines, potentially paired with mild-hybrid technology to address stricter emission standards. For India specifically, the i20 is likely to retain the familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated and 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine options, at least at launch. The global debut is expected during the 2026 FIFA World Cup period, with an India launch likely to follow in due course.
