

BMW i5 Long Wheelbase bookings open — India's first locally made BMW sedan EV

BMW India has opened bookings for the first-ever i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB). It will be the brand's first locally built electric sedan in India and the second electric BMW to be made at the BMW Group Plant Chennai. Bookings can be placed through BMW's authorised dealer network, with customers also able to register interest via the BMW India website.

The i5 LWB is based on the BMW 5 Series and measures 5,175mm long, 2,156mm wide and 1,520mm tall, with a 3,105mm wheelbase. BMW says it is the largest and longest sedan in its segment, with the extra wheelbase creating more space for rear passengers.
All-new BMW i5 LWB Battery, range and performance

The i5 LWB uses an 81.6kWh battery and a single electric motor producing 268hp. It can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds and has a claimed range of up to 669km under MIDC testing. To handle Indian road conditions specifically, BMW has fitted the i5 LWB with adaptive rear-axle air suspension and increased ground clearance.
2026 BMW i5 Long Wheelbase First Edition

Alongside the standard launch, BMW India has introduced an exclusive i5 LWB First Edition, limited to just 99 customers. It features a rear-seat entertainment package with a tablet and holder, along with BMW Individual Silver Bronze accents, Fineline open-pore wood trim and Silver Bronze inlays.
The dashboard also features 'FIRST EDITION' laser engraving. This version is available with a Carbon Black Metallic exterior and Titanium Bronze accents. BMW is expected to announce the i5 LWB's price and full specifications closer to its India launch.
