Outline

Honda Cars India posted domestic sales of 7,585 units in March 2026, a 5% improvement over March 2025's 7,228 units. The result brings some relief after a difficult few months and closes the financial year on a positive note domestically. Exports, however, fell sharply to 2,451 units from 4,656 a year ago, a trend that has now persisted across the second half of FY26.

Kunal Behl, Vice President – Marketing and Sales, credited sustained demand for the Amaze and Elevate and confirmed plans to launch Honda's first BEV in the second half of FY27.

The table below captures Honda's domestic sales, exports, and combined totals for each of the past six months, alongside year-on-year comparisons for each figure. It offers the clearest view of how the business has moved across the second half of FY 2025–26.

Domestic sales have stayed fairly stable, mostly between 5,200 and 7,600 units. October and March were the strongest months, helped by festive demand and year-end buying. The other months were slightly lower, which follows the usual seasonal pattern. January saw a noticeable dip year-on-year, but that was against a higher base.

Exports are where the pressure is more visible. October was the last relatively strong month. From November onward, volumes dropped sharply and stayed low. January was the weakest point. There was some recovery in February and March, but exports are still well below last year’s levels.

Honda Elevate

Comparing March 2025 and March 2026, Honda’s domestic sales moved up from 7,228 to 7,585 units, a 5% increase. This was supported by demand for the Amaze and Elevate, along with year-end buying.

Exports4,656 units2,451 units-47.4%

That growth is positive, but it is slightly behind the overall market, which grew around 7–8% in the same period. Honda’s limited lineup and no strong presence in EVs or hybrids still show here. Exports tell a different story. Volumes dropped from 4,656 to 2,451 units, a sharp 47% decline. This has reduced the overall contribution exports used to make to Honda’s total sales.

Exports1,583 units2,451 units+54.8%
Total Sales7,212 units10,036 units+39.2%

From February to March, Honda saw a clear recovery. Domestic sales rose from 5,629 to 7,585 units, a 34.7% jump. Exports increased from 1,583 to 2,451 units, up 54.8%. Total sales moved from 7,212 to 10,036 units, a 39% rise.

This improvement is expected. March is usually the strongest month due to year-end buying and dealer push. A similar trend was seen last year as well. Even with weak exports, domestic demand has held up reasonably well over the past few months. Models like the Amaze and Elevate continue to support volumes.

What it means for Honda going into FY 2026–27

Honda Amaze

Honda ends the financial year with stable domestic sales, but growth is slower than the overall market. Exports have become the main concern, pulling down total volumes despite steady domestic demand.

The key update is Honda’s plan to launch its first EV in India in the second half of FY27. This should help address the gap in its current lineup. Exports remain uncertain and will be an important area to watch in the coming months.
