Honda Civic Type R India launch soon — Golf GTI rival?

As per a latest media report, Honda Cars India is set to launch the Civic Type R in the Indian market, to rival the recently-launched Volkswagen Golf GTI. The arrival of the Civic Type R will amp up Honda’s India portfolio which is rather dull at the moment. Read on to know more about the Honda Civic Type R and what makes it so special.

People in the know have shared that the Civic Type R is on the cards of Honda Cars India, in order to spruce up its existing line up of cars, which includes the City, Amaze and Elevate. The Civic is among the most powerful Honda cars currently on sale and incidentally the fastest front-wheel-drive car to go around the Nurburgring. While there is no official launch timeline for the Civic Type R, Honda could bring in the Civic Type R in the coming years via the CBU route. So don’t expect any lucrative pricing from the Japanese carmaker.

Honda Civic Type R design
There are many design cues of the Civic Type R that make it different from the standard model. These design cues include a large radiator grille up front with the R badging, large air intakes on the lower part of the bumper, air ducts to cool the brakes, red brake callipers, Type-R alloy wheels and a large spoiler at the back.
Honda Civic Type R features
On the interior, the Civic Type R packs in a sporty dashboard design with an all-black colour, complimented with red sporty seats and red Honda logo. On the features front, it features a sporty steering wheel with red Honda logo, a digital instrument cluster, a floating touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, automatic climate control and a lot more.

Honda Civic Type R powertrain details
Under the hood, it features a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that puts out 325PS of power and 420Nm of torque. All its power goes to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission, making it an enthusiast’s delight. Its impressive performance comes courtesy of a turbocharger with 25.2psi of boost and an engine that revs to 7000rpm. As a result, it could accelerate from standstill to 100kmph in 5.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 275kmph.
