Mahindra has officially unveiled its long-awaited lifestyle pickup truck, based on the Global Pik Up concept first shown in 2023. Called the Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler in India, the new pickup is set to launch by April 2027. Mahindra has also confirmed that its price will start below Rs 19.79 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a more affordable option in the lifestyle pickup segment.

For international markets, the pickup will be sold as the Mahindra Lifestyler, without the Scorpio name. It has been developed as a global product for markets such as Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, other African countries, the Middle East and Latin America.

Mahindra has confirmed that the Scorpio Lifestyler will launch in India by April 2027, with prices starting below Rs 19.79 lakh (ex-showroom). This could make it more affordable than lifestyle pickups such as the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu V-Cross.

The pickup was first shown as a concept in Cape Town, South Africa, in August 2023. Mahindra says the production model has been developed as a global midsize pickup, combining pickup capability with comfort, technology and everyday usability.

The Scorpio Lifestyler was designed at the Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai and developed at the Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai. Mahindra says the pickup was developed from the start for customers in both India and international markets.

Upcoming Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler Pickup platform & exterior

The Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler is based on the company's next-generation body-on-frame platform. It has been designed as a vehicle that can be used for work, adventure and everyday driving. It carries the design theme of the Global Pik Up concept shown in 2023.

At the front, the pickup gets high-set LED headlamps with L-shaped daytime running lights, a wide honeycomb grille with chrome accents and a “Scorpio” wordmark on the bonnet. It also gets a rugged skid plate with “Mahindra” lettering, a meshed air dam and vertically placed LED fog lamps.

The side profile features a double-cab layout, dual-tone alloy wheels with off-road tyres, chunky body cladding and roof rails. The kinked beltline and fender-mounted snorkel add to its rugged look and off-road character. At the rear, the Scorpio Lifestyler gets vertically placed LED tail-lamps with C-shaped lighting elements. The tailgate carries a large “Mahindra” wordmark, while the rugged bumper completes the design.

Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler editions

Mahindra has also shown three special editions: the Surfer Edition, Trail Edition and Valley Edition. The company has not yet revealed how these versions will differ from the standard Lifestyler.

The Valley Edition focuses on both work and leisure. It gets an Artemis Grey finish and is designed with an emphasis on practicality and comfort. The Reef Edition is aimed at buyers who enjoy outdoor activities and travel. It gets an Aquareef finish inspired by the different shades of the ocean.

The Trail Edition has a more adventurous theme and comes in a Sahara Beige finish. It highlights the go-anywhere character of the Scorpio Lifestyler. Mahindra has not yet confirmed whether these editions will be sold as separate variants when the pickup launches in India.

2027 Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler Pickup cabin and expected features

Mahindra has not revealed the full interior yet, but the teasers show a more premium cabin than the rugged exterior suggests. It gets a large portrait-style touchscreen infotainment system and a new four-spoke steering wheel with an aluminium insert.

The centre console gets piano-black trim, a rotary dial for the 4x4 system and a large centre armrest. The driver also gets a digital instrument cluster with customisable graphics. Expected features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone automatic climate control, powered and ventilated front seats, wireless charging and push-button start with keyless entry. A premium audio system is also expected.

Safety features are likely to include Level 2 ADAS, six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors and hill hold control. The pickup is also expected to get a 540-degree camera system, similar to the one offered with the Scorpio N and XUV 7XO.

Powertrain options

The upcoming Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler Pickup is expected to carry over the same engine options as the updated Scorpio N SUV. That includes a 2-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine making 203 PS and up to 380 Nm, and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel producing up to 175 PS and 400 Nm. Both engines are expected to be offered with 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission choices, with the diesel likely to get an optional 4WD system, while the petrol is expected to remain rear-wheel drive.

Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler global positioning

The Scorpio Lifestyler is being developed as a global midsize pickup rather than a model made only for India. Mahindra says it has been engineered for customers across different markets.

The pickup will target markets such as Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, other African countries, the Middle East and Latin America.

A more accessible alternative in the segment

With a starting price expected to be nearly half that of the Toyota Hilux, the Scorpio Lifestyler could make lifestyle pickups more accessible in India. Its final success will depend on the cabin quality, comfort and build quality once it goes on sale. However, the lower price and expected features make it a strong alternative to the current pickup options.
