MG has launched the Hector Tomahawk EV in India, with prices starting at Rs 19.49 lakh for outright purchase. Under the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) plan, the entry-level version costs Rs 13.99 lakh, with the battery charged separately at Rs 4.99 per km. The Tomahawk EV is MG's first India model based on the new ADAPT architecture. 

 

MG Hector Tomahawk EV is also one of the few three-row electric SUVs in the Indian market. It will rival the Mahindra XEV 9S and Kia Carens Clavis EV. Bookings are now open, while test drives and deliveries will begin in September.

The MG Hector Tomahawk EV Excite and Exclusive variants are available only with seven seats. The Essence variant can be ordered with either five or seven seats. With BaaS, the seven-seat Excite costs Rs 13.99 lakh upfront. Buyers then pay Rs 4.99 per km for battery usage.

The Tomahawk EV has LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs and an illuminated MG logo at the front. The lower bumper uses a closed-off black design. It also features 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, roof rails, black body cladding and an automatic powered tailgate. At the rear, it has wraparound LED tail lamps and a sculpted bumper.

 

The SUV measures 4,745mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,770mm tall, with a 2,810mm wheelbase and 230mm ground clearance. Boot space stands at 610 litres in the five-seat version and increases to 1,053 litres with the second row folded. The seven-seat version offers 192 litres with all three rows in use and 528 litres with the third row folded.

The cabin gets a 15.6-inch touchscreen and an 8.8-inch digital driver's display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging and gesture controls are also available. MG's i-SMART system adds more than 80 connected features and supports over 30 Hinglish voice commands.

Other features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, 256-colour ambient lighting, a 10-speaker Infinity sound system, rear window sunshades and a memory function for the driver's seat. The Tomahawk EV also offers Nap, Camp, Energise, Pro Pet, Valet and Quiet modes, which adjust different cabin functions based on the selected mode.

The SUV uses a 69.2kWh battery with a permanent-magnet synchronous motor producing 204hp and 310Nm. MG claims a 517km MIDC range and a 0- 100 km/h time of 8.2 seconds. DC fast charging is supported at up to 90kW. MG claims the battery can charge from 30 to 80% in around 35 minutes using a 90kW charger. A 7.4kW AC charger takes around 12.5 hours to charge it from 10 to 100%. A portable charger for a standard 15A socket is also offered.

The Tomahawk EV supports V2L and V2V, allowing it to power external devices or charge another EV. It also claims to be India's first vehicle with V2H, allowing the battery to supply electricity to a home through two-way charging. Overall, the Hector Tomahawk EV combines three-row seating, a 517km claimed range, BaaS pricing and several V2X functions.
