As per a new media report by Autocar UK, Dacia is mulling about launching a Duster-based electric SUV. The Duster EV is also likely to be launched in the Indian market, though its launch is still a few years away. Renault Duster Electric confirmed

 

In a recent interaction with Autocar UK, Denis Le Vot, CEO of Dacia brand, confirmed the Duster Electric is in the development stage and will come in time. The Renault Duster Electric—to be called the Dacia Duster Electric in global markets—is said to be underpinned by Renault’s CMF-BEV platform, which is an EV-converted iteration of the CMF-B platform.

Renault Duster Electric platform 

 

The Duster Electric’s CMF-BEV platform is compliant to boast both single and dual electric motors, thereby enabling electric 4x4 drivetrain. This would help the Duster Electric to stay abreast to the popularity the Duster moniker has gained over the years as an affordable and capable rugged SUV. The Duster Electric is also likely to offer a single-motor option also, in order to keep the initial price in check for buyers, who are not into offroading.

 

Renault Duster Electric India launch details

 

Multiple reports in the past have revealed Renault’s intent of launching a Duster-based electric SUV in the Indian market, following conversations with multiple cell and battery manufacturers for the same. One quick glance at the Renault’s India portfolio would be enough to understand that Renault is very cost competitive and localising the EV components for its upcoming electric vehicles will hold pivotal importance. Currently, the Indian arm of the French carmaker busy readying the Triber and Kiger facelifts along with the new-gen Duster and its 7-seater counterpart.
