Outline

For many people in India the original Duster holds a special place. It was affordable, practical and genuinely capable on rough roads. The new 2026 Renault Duster brings all of that back but with something the original never had — a verified crash safety rating from Bharat NCAP.

The 2026 Duster scored 5 stars in both adult and child occupant protection categories under the Bharat NCAP programme. That puts it among the better performing SUVs in India from a safety standpoint. Whether you are buying the base Authentic or going for the top Iconic, the rating applies across the lineup.

The tested variants were the Evolution (1.3L MT), the Techno (1.3L DCT) and the Iconic (1.3L MT). Bharat NCAP assessed the car at a crash test weight of 1621 kg, and the assessment was published in 2026.

2026 Renault Duster safety rating in adult occupant protection — Almost perfect

Renault Duster

The Renault Duster scores 30.49 out of 32 for adult occupant protection, just 1.51 points short of a perfect score. Here is the breakdown:

TestScore
Frontal offset deformable barrier test14.49 out of 16
Side movable deformable barrier test16.00 out of 16
Side pole impact testOK
Total adult occupant protection30.49 out of 32

The Renault Duster got a perfect 16 out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test. That means in a side collision, the occupants inside are well protected. The frontal test was also very good at 14.49 out of 16, though not perfect. The side pole impact test result was marked OK, meaning the car did not fail this assessment.

Renault Duster

ComponentScore
Dynamic score24 out of 24
CRS installation score12 out of 12
Vehicle assessment score9 out of 13
Total child occupant protection45.00 out of 49

The Renault Duster scores 45 out of 49 for child occupant protection. This rating is based on three parts. The dynamic score is a full 24 out of 24, which shows that the child restraint systems (CRS) perform well during a crash. The CRS installation score is also perfect at 12 out of 12, meaning child seats can be installed correctly without confusion.

The vehicle assessment score is 9 out of 13. This looks at features like ISOFIX mounts, labelling, and airbag cut-off switches. There is still some scope for improvement in this area.

Both child dummies scored 8 out of 8 in the frontal test and 4 out of 4 in the side test, indicating perfect dynamic scores. ISOFIX points are available on the outer rear seats, which is where child seats are usually installed. The front passenger seat does not get ISOFIX, which is standard for most cars. A manual passenger airbag cut-off switch is provided, which is required if a rear-facing child seat is placed in the front.
