Skoda Octavia RS India launch confirmed — Expected Price?

It’s a good year for VAG lovers in the country, since we have witnessed some interesting launches—from the luxurious Kodiaq to the sporty Golf GTI—this year has been busy for the group. However, the sporty side of the VAG group is set to receive another addition, which happens to be of the much-loved Octavia RS. Skoda has officially confirmed its plans to launch the Octavia RS this year. Skoda Octavia RS is coming to India

Skoda India's new brand director, Ashish Gupta, recently confirmed in a media interaction that the Octavia RS is on its way to the Indian market. The Octavia RS enjoys a cult following in the Indian market and its previous models—namely the Octavia RS230 and Octavia RS245—had an encouraging despite relatively exorbitant price tags. Skoda India expects to recreate the same old magic with the new generation of the Octavia RS.

Like before, Skoda India will bring the Octavia RS via the CBU route, which would mean a steep price. However, we expect the Octavia RS to cost lower or equivalent to that of the recently-launched Golf GTI that retails at Rs 53 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Once launched, it will go against the likes of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limo and of course, the Golf GTI.

Skoda Octavia RS design elements

The RS-spec Octavia gets lots of exterior elements that distinguish it from the standard sedan. It features a blacked-out grille, larger air intakes, vRS badges at the front and rear, a rear lip spoiler, and a different design for the alloy wheels. The RS also sits 15mm lower than the regular Octavia. The design changes aren’t limited to the exterior, but to the inside of the cabin too. There are red inserts throughout the cabin, coupled with red ambient lighting. The sports seats come finished in black upholstery with red stitching. The steering wheel also features a vRS badge at the bottom.

Skoda Octavia RS engine specifications

The new Skoda Octavia RS is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine that has been tuned to produce a maximum power of 269PS and 370Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. It also gets a different exhaust system than the regular Octavia. This same engine also powers the Golf GTI and puts out similar power and torque outputs and channels all of that to the front wheels only.
