Tata Motors is expanding its SUV lineup by introducing petrol power for the Harrier and Safari. After years of running exclusively on diesel, both SUVs will finally get a petrol option — something fans have been waiting for since their debut.
The upcoming Harrier and Safari petrol variants are said to use the same new turbo-petrol engine that will also power the upcoming Tata Sierra model. Upcoming Tata Harrier and Safari petrol launch date
The new Tata Harrier and Safari petrol variants are scheduled to launch on 9th December. Once launched, the Tata Harrier will strategically rival models like the MG Hector, Jeep Compass, and others, while the Tata Safari petrol will compete with the Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector Plus, among others.

Upcoming Tata Harrier and Safari petrol specifications
Taking a quick trip back to the 2023 Bharat Mobility Expo, Tata showcased a brand-new 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged TGDi engine. It delivers a claimed 170 PS at 5,000 rpm and 280 Nm of peak torque between 2,000 and 3,500 rpm.
This engine is said to be the same one making its way not just under the hood of the upcoming Tata Sierra, but also into the new Tata Safari and Harrier petrol variants. When it comes to transmission choices, we’re likely to see the familiar setup — a six-speed manual and a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

2025 Tata Safari petrol price (expected)
Since petrol engines generally have smaller capacities and are cheaper than their diesel counterparts, the Safari petrol is expected to start at a lower price than the diesel variants. This could bring the 2026 Tata Safari price range down, making it more accessible to a wider pool of buyers. Currently, the Tata Safari ranges between Rs 14.66 lakh and Rs 25.96 lakh ex-showroom, New Delhi, after the GST cut of up to Rs 1,48,210.
2025 Tata Harrier petrol price (expected)
The same is expected for the Tata Harrier petrol price range. After a similar GST cut of up to Rs 1,44,110, the flagship SUV now starts at Rs 14.66 lakh and goes up to Rs 25.96 lakh ex-showroom, New Delhi. Lower starting prices for both models could make Tata’s petrol SUVs more appealing to those who have been waiting for a cost effective alternative to diesel.
