The Tata Punch has already built a solid reputation when it comes to safety, having earned a 5-star rating for adult occupant protection and a 4-star rating for child occupant protection in Global NCAP crash tests back in 2021. 

 

Now, just days after the launch of the Tata Punch facelift, the updated compact SUV has once again underlined its safety credentials by securing a 5-star rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests. The rating applies to select petrol and CNG variants of the Tata Punch facelift tested under the latest AIS-197 safety norms.

Tata Punch facelift safety rating — Adult occupant protection

 

Tata Punch Facelift

 

In the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category, the Tata Punch facelift delivered a strong performance, scoring 30.58 out of 32 points. The high score highlights the vehicle’s solid body structure and the effectiveness of its restraint systems in managing crash forces.

 

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Punch facelift scored 14.71 out of 16 points. Protection levels for key body regions were rated from adequate to good, with the passenger compartment remaining stable during impact. These tests were conducted at a crash test weight of 1,448 kg.

 

Tata Punch Facelift

 

The Punch facelift also performed exceptionally well in the side movable deformable barrier test, scoring 15.87 out of 16 points. This result indicates excellent protection in side-impact scenarios. In addition, the vehicle successfully cleared the side pole impact test, confirming effective side head protection for occupants.

Tata Punch facelift crash test results — Child occupant protection

 

The Tata Punch facelift also put in a strong showing in the Child Occupant Protection (COP) category, securing a total score of 45 out of 49 points.

 

In the dynamic crash tests, the model achieved a perfect 24 out of 24, highlighting good protection for both 18-month-old and 3-year-old child dummies in frontal and side impact scenarios. These tests were carried out using i-Size compliant child restraint systems, including rearward-facing seats mounted via ISOFIX.

The Punch facelift also scored a flawless 12 out of 12 points in the CRS installation assessment, indicating that child seats can be fitted securely and with ease using the ISOFIX anchorages.

 

In the vehicle-based child safety assessment, the compact SUV earned 9 out of 13 points. This score reflects the presence of ISOFIX mounts, airbag cut-off provisions, and other features.

 

2026 Tata Punch safety features

 

The Maruti e Vitara comes with a solid set of standard safety features, including ESP, hill hold assist, iTPMS, smart steering wheel, follow-me-home headlamps, front power window, idle start-stop, keyless entry, central locking, puncture kit, ISOFIX, and 3-point ELR with SBR for all seats.
