Tata Motors is readying the Sierra for the Indian market in both EV and ICE avatars. A new media report now claims that alongside the 1.5-litre T-GDI petrol engine, the new Sierra will also feature a newly-developed 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Read on to know more about the upcoming Tata Sierra and the new 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.
Tata Sierra to debut Tata’s two new petrol engines
Among many things that Tata cars excel at, its range of petrol engines is not one of them. Currently, Tata Motors has three petrol engines on offer — 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.2-litre turbo petrol and 1.2-litre T-GDI turbo petrol. With the launch of the Sierra, Tata Motors is set to bring two new petrol engine options — a 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol. While the former will be the one locking its horns with the T-GDI motors of the Creta and Seltos, the new naturally-aspirated petrol motor will compete in cost, keeping the new Tata Sierra starting price in check.

Needless to say, the new 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated motor will be a derivative of the 1.5-litre T-GDI motor, which will later also power the Harrier and Safari petrol. The new naturally aspirated petrol motor will enable Tata Motors to price the Sierra competitively against the lower variants of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and MG Astor. It remains to be seen what transmission options this new engine comes with, given that the rivals offer both manual and automatic options.
Tata Sierra launch timeline in India
The Tata Sierra launch remains on track for the Indian market. We have already seen multiple appearances of the new Sierra on test ahead of its India launch. The Sierra India launch is likely to take place around the festive season of 2025, which is the timeline between September and October 2025. Once launched, the Sierra will go up against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and Honda Elevate.
