This video sparks a new curiosity around what to expect from Toyota India in the coming years in terms of products and powertrains. Is there any possibility of the Toyota Aqua India launch? We break down the possibilities and what to expect from Toyota India in the coming years.

Toyota Aqua hybrid launch in India?

The Toyota Aqua hybrid has been spotted on test on Indian roads for the first time. The car didn’t have any Toyota branding or model name at the rear. The test car was spotted in a unique mustard yellow colour with alloy wheels, hinting towards it being a higher-spec model. The question is, is there any chance of the Toyota Aqua hybrid being launched in India anytime soon? In most likelihood, there is no possibility of Toyota Aqua launching in India.

Globally, the Toyota Aqua hybrid comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine along with a hybrid setup, making it a strong hybrid powertrain. A similar powertrain is already offered in the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and its Suzuki sibling—the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Its engine puts out 91PS of power and 120Nm of torque and offers a claimed fuel efficiency upwards of 33kmpl. Since the Aqua measures around 4 metres in length, it wouldn’t comply with the sub-4m taxation rules in India, thereby making it unviable for the Indian market.

Upcoming Toyota cars in India

Currently, Toyota offers a range of petrol, CNG, diesel and hybrid models in its India lineup. One missing link—electric—is going to be filled with the launch of the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV. The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will share its underpinnings with the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, which is going to go on sale in India first. The Urban Cruiser EV India launch will further deepen the collaborative efforts between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki in the Indian market.
