Toyota Fortuner sales in India cross 3 million units — Next-gen incoming?

Since its initial launch back in 2009, the Toyota Fortuner has been a much sought-after SUV amongst a wide variety of buyers. Thanks to its bulletproof reliability, powerful engines, off-road prowess, and road presence, it has been the top selling SUV of its segment even after being an aged product. Notably, Toyota has hit the 3 million sales mark for the Fortuner just days back. Here’s more information about it, along with all that we know about the upcoming next generation model.

Toyota Fortuner sales milestone

Toyota has sold 3 million units of the Fortuner across both its generations over the last seventeen years. This includes the sales of both the Fortuner and the Fortuner Legender. It is unclear as to whether this figure also includes exports from India.

Toyota Fortuner price in India

Banking on its strong brand name, the Fortuner carries an exorbitant price tag, with the base variant starting from Rs 35.37 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), going all the way up till Rs 51.94 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-of-the-line GR-Sport variant.

Upcoming next gen Toyota Fortuner 

The third generation Toyota Fortuner is long-awaited and might be launched in India in the coming months, though the carmaker is yet to confirm the same. The updated SUV is likely to get a complete design overhaul with major changes made to the interior as well, equipping the car with modern features, which the current gen lacks. There’s also news that the next-gen model will come with a turbo-petrol, as well as a hybrid powertrain. Interestingly, Toyota recently launched a mild-hybrid option on the Hilux in the UK, which is essentially a pickup truck version of the Fortuner.
