Kia has opened pre-bookings for the upcoming Carnival Hybrid in India, a week after revealing the MPV's specifications. The hybrid version is expected to launch soon and will be sold in the same Limousine+ trim that is currently available only with the diesel engine. This will give the Carnival its first electrified powertrain in India. The existing diesel version will continue to be sold alongside the hybrid.
Kia Carnival Hybrid powertrain
The Carnival Hybrid will use the same 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine as the Sorento Hybrid. It produces 180hp and 265Nm. However, the Carnival gets a more powerful electric motor, producing 73.4hp and 304Nm. This is 8.4hp and 40Nm more than the motor used in the Sorento Hybrid. The hybrid powertrain comes with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox.
The existing 2.2-litre diesel engine will also continue to be offered. It produces 193hp and is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Kia Carnival Hybrid design and new features

The Carnival Hybrid will look mostly the same as the diesel version. The main difference on the outside is the new HEV badge on the tailgate. It will continue with the tiger-face grille, vertically stacked LED headlights with DRLs, powered sliding doors, 18-inch alloy wheels and connected LED tail-lights.
The cabin will also remain largely the same. It will get dual 12.3-inch screens, 11-inch Advanced Head-Up Display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 3-zone climate control, 64-colour ambient lighting, 12-speaker Bose sound system and wireless charger. Other features include a 12-way power driver's seat with 4-way lumbar support and memory function, 8-way power front passenger seat, and heated and ventilated front seats.
The hybrid version will also get a few new features. These include a Virtual Engine Sound System, which plays a sound to alert pedestrians when the MPV is moving quietly on electric power at low speeds.
Safety features will include 8 airbags, front, rear and side parking sensors, Highline TPMS, all-wheel disc brakes, Vehicle Stability Management, seat-belt reminders for all rows, 3-point seat belts for all rows, speed-sensing auto door locks, impact-sensing auto door unlock, Level 2 ADAS and 360-degree camera.
Kia Carnival Hybrid pricing and expected timeline
Kia has not announced the Carnival Hybrid's price yet. The company is expected to reveal the pricing closer to the launch. The current Carnival Limousine+ diesel is priced at Rs 59.65 lakh, ex-showroom. The hybrid is expected to cost more because of its additional electric motor and hybrid system.
Pre-bookings are now open through Kia dealerships. The Carnival Hybrid is expected to launch in India in the coming weeks.
