Volkswagen Tayron launch timeline confirmed for India — Everything you need to know!

Volkswagen Tayron is the 7-seater version of the recently launched VW Tiguan R-Line in India. Ahead of its official debut in the country, the Volkswagen Tayron has also been spotted testing on the roads of Maharashtra. This launch will also mark Volkswagen’s return to the 3-row SUV segment after the Tiguan Allspace was taken off the market.

With testing ongoing and the car being seen more often, the Volkswagen Tayron launch timeline has also been confirmed by sources. It is said to happen in the second half of the year, likely after the peak of the Indian festive season. Volkswagen Tayron launch on the horizon — Exterior & dimensions

Unlike the Volkswagen Taigun R-Line, which comes to India through the CBU route, the VW Tayron 3 Row is expected to arrive via the CKD route. A recently spotted test mule, seen without any camouflage, looked very similar to the version sold in the UK market, showing a familiar design at both the front and rear. In the international market, the VW Tayron dimensions stand at 4792 mm in length, 1866 mm in width, and 1668 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2788 mm.

Volkswagen Tayron interior & features

Talking about the VW Tayron interior, it is expected to follow the same clean and modern look as the international version. It will likely feature a large floating infotainment display, VW’s signature 3-spoke steering wheel, and a dashboard design that avoids too many cladding or extra elements.

As for the Volkswagen Tayron feature list, it is expected to include a 15-inch infotainment touchscreen, 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, multiple speakers, adjustable driver seat, several airbags, parking sensors, Level 2 ADAS, and a few more practical additions.

Volkswagen Tayron engine

The VW Tayron is likely to be powered by the familiar 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 204PS of power and 320Nm of torque. This engine will come paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. 

Apart from this, there are also some talks about the possible return of a diesel engine through this model. Back in 2020, Volkswagen announced its decision to move away from diesel engines in the Indian market and focus more on turbo-petrol options. That move affected models like the Polo, Vento, T-Roc, and Tiguan Allspace, which were earlier available with diesel engines. While it’s no secret that the brand has been considering a comeback for diesel in India, it’s still not confirmed if this will be the model chosen to start that shift.

According to sources, the Volkswagen Tayron launch in the Indian market is expected to take place after Diwali, which will be celebrated on October 21st this year. Once launched, this upcoming 3-row VW model will compete with cars like the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, Toyota Fortuner, and the upcoming MG Majestic.
