What the reborn Mitsubishi Pajero actually brings to the table?

Mitsubishi has revealed the all-new Pajero Cross-Country SUV. It will be the brand’s new flagship SUV and marks the return of the Pajero name. The new model gets a ladder-frame chassis, diesel engine and four-wheel-drive system focused on off-road driving.
All-new Mitsubishi Pajero launch timeline
The new Mitsubishi Pajero will be built in Thailand and will launch there first. Japan and Australia will follow in fiscal 2026. From fiscal 2027, Mitsubishi plans to sell it in around 100 countries, including ASEAN, Latin America and the Middle East. The Pajero nameplate dates back to 1982. The first four generations together sold more than 3.29 million units across over 170 countries.
Mitsubishi Pajero engine
The Mitsubishi Pajero gets a 2.4-litre clean diesel engine with a variable geometry turbocharger. It produces up to 480Nm of torque, while some variants produce 470Nm. The engine comes with a new 8-speed automatic gearbox with a Sport mode. Mitsubishi has tuned the powertrain for both regular road use and off-road driving.
Mitsubishi Pajero chassis and drive systems
The new Pajero uses a body-on-frame ladder chassis, which is better suited to tough off-road use. It also gets Mitsubishi’s S-AWC system and Super Select 4WD-II. The four-wheel-drive system has four settings:
- 2H: Rear-wheel drive
- 4H: Full-time four-wheel drive
- 4HLc: Four-wheel drive with locked centre differential
- 4LLc: Four-wheel drive with locked centre differential and low range
There are also seven drive modes: Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock. The SUV gets large 18-inch brake rotors and an electric brake booster.

Mitsubishi Pajero dimensions
The Mitsubishi Pajero is 4,920mm long, 1,925mm wide and 1,910mm tall, with a 2,870mm wheelbase. It has 230mm of ground clearance and front and rear tracks of 1,630mm. Its approach angle is 30.4 degrees, breakover angle is 22.6 degrees and departure angle is 25.8 degrees. The front-to-rear weight distribution is 52:48.
Mitsubishi Pajero cabin and seating
The new Pajero has three rows with seating for seven. The second row can slide by 150mm and can also tumble forward to make access to the third row easier. The third row has extra headroom and a footwell that allows passengers to place their feet under the second-row seats.
The cabin gets ventilated seats and three-zone automatic climate control. The dashboard has a horizontal design inspired by the first-generation Pajero and features two 14.3-inch screens. One of them is a Multi Meter display inspired by the old Pajero’s three-gauge instrument cluster. Mitsubishi has also added more sound insulation, including acoustic glass for the windshield and door windows.
Mitsubishi Pajero safety and technology
The Pajero gets eight airbags, including Mitsubishi’s first SRS centre airbag. Its safety features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, Forward Collision Mitigation, Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Emergency Lane Assist and Front Cross Traffic Alert.
The 3D Multi Around Monitor uses four cameras to show the SUV from different angles. It also provides a front under-floor view to help the driver see obstacles and road conditions that are otherwise hidden.
Other features include a 14.3-inch infotainment screen, wireless smartphone connectivity and a 12-speaker Yamaha audio system.
