Outline

D-segment SUVs have seen quite a few new entrants lately, the key ones being the Skoda Kodiaq and the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line. One of the less-talked about cars in this segment, the Jeep Meridian, received a facelift a few months back, and also comes up to be a decent option for many buyers. Here are the key Jeep Meridian pros and cons that you should consider before buying a new SUV in India.

Plush cabin

The dashboard of the Meridian gets a heavy dosage of suede leather, and the overall feel of the cabin makes the car look and feel premium. There’s a long list of features on board, and the seats are well-bolstered and comfortable.

Off-road capabilities

As capable as it is on the road, the Jeep Meridian takes off-road challenges with equal vigour and doesn’t fail to impress. It has ample amount of ground clearance, along with a very adept 4x4 system.

Ride quality

One of the highlights of the Meridian is its ride quality, thanks to its neatly-tuned suspension setup. It performs wonderfully on bad roads, glides over undulations, and handles high speed runs pretty well, too.

Third row space

The Meridian is best used as a 5-seater as there is near-to-none space in the third row. While it isn’t suited for adults at all, even children might find the dearth of space bothersome on longer journeys.

Less powerful

The Meridian has a relatively calmer character and the engine likes to deliver its power gradually. It isn’t as powerful as most of its rivals, and only comes with a 2.0-litre diesel engine.

Mileage in the city

Despite being a diesel, fuel economy is disappointing in the city, and touching the double-digit mark is nearly impossible. While highway mileage isn’t as bad, extensive use in the city would be quite heavy on the pocket.
