Step 1: Visit the official Sarathi Parivahan website.

Step 1: Visit the State Transport Official Website.

Step 2: Under ‘Road Transport’, click on Jammu and Kashmir. 

Step 3: You will be redirected to the Jammu and Kashmir Regional Transport website.

Step 4: Under ‘Citizen Services’ on the top menu, select ‘Motor Vehicle Department.’

Step 5: On the Motor Vehicle Department page, click on ‘Other Links’ on the top menu.

Step 6: Click on ‘Parivahan’ to redirect to the official Parivahan site.  
Step 8: Under ‘Online Services’ on the top menu, select ‘Driving Licence Related Services.’

Step 9: Choose Jammu and Kashmir as the state.

Things to keep in mind while checking driving licence (DL) status in Jammu and Kashmir online

Once the application form is submitted and the driving test is successfully completed, the applicant needs to keep the following things in mind:

- It can take up to 30 days from the date of passing the driving test to get your driving licence. During this time, you can check the status of your DL online. However, it takes a minimum of two weeks for your application to be processed. So, it is advisable to check the status after the first two weeks. 

- Applicants can check their driving licence status online by visiting the Parivahan site, selecting Jammu and Kashmir as the state, and submitting their application number, date of birth along with the given captcha code. This process is free of cost. 

- The RTO usually issues the driving licence in three to four weeks, and it is delivered to the registered address of the vehicle owner. 

- The RTO’s rules and regulations are subject to change. So, it is advisable to keep oneself updated on the application by regularly checking its status online.

- On receiving the driver’s licence, always note its expiry date and ensure that a renewal application is filed before the licence expires. 
- In case of loss, theft or damage to the licence, applicants can apply for a duplicate driving licence. 
- Those who own a valid driving licence in Jammu and Kashmir can also apply for an international driving permit (IDP), which can be used to legally drive in various other countries around the world.

- The validity of a Jammu and Kashmir driving licence is 20 years from its date of issue or till the applicant reaches 50 years of age, whichever happens earlier. 
- On expiry, the driving licence needs to be renewed. During renewal, the expired driving licence is replaced by a newly issued one, usually on the same day itself. However, if the renewed licence is not provided on the same day, its status can be tracked online using the renewal application number. 

- It usually takes the RTO about three to four weeks from the date of the driving test to issue and deliver the driving licence to the applicant’s registered address. 

- If the driving licence is lost, damaged or stolen, the licence holder needs to apply for a duplicate licence using a duplicate driving licence form. Once all the documentation is complete, the applicant can check its status online.
