BMW i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB) has been launched in India at an introductory price of Rs 79,60,000 (ex-showroom). It is the brand’s first locally produced electric sedan in the country and is built at BMW Group Plant Chennai. Bookings are now open through BMW dealerships and its website, with deliveries starting immediately.

 

The i5 LWB is aimed at buyers looking for an electric luxury sedan with more rear-seat space. BMW is offering it in the eDrive35L M Sport trim, while the limited First Edition was also priced at Rs 79,60,000. All 99 First Edition units were sold out before the official launch.

BMW i5 Long Wheelbase

 

The BMW i5 eDrive35L M Sport is priced at Rs 79,60,000. The First Edition was available at the same price but came with extra features and exclusive design details. It was limited to 99 units and has already sold out. The First Edition gets a rear-seat entertainment package with a tablet and holder, BMW Individual Silver Bronze interior details, Fineline open-pored wood trim and a “FIRST EDITION” engraving on the dashboard. It also gets a Carbon Black Metallic exterior with Titanium Bronze accents.

 

BMW i5 LWB dimensions and design

 

The BMW i5 LWB measures 5,175mm in length, 2,156mm in width and 1,520mm in height. It has a 3,105mm wheelbase, which BMW says makes it the largest and most spacious car in its segment. The sedan gets BMW’s kidney grille with Iconic Glow lighting, adaptive LED headlights and L-shaped tail-lamps. Other design elements include flush door handles, black side skirts and 20-inch M aerodynamic wheels.

 

It is available in four exterior colours: Mineral White, Phytonic Blue, Carbon Black and Oxide Grey.

 

BMW i5 LWB interior and cabin features

 

The i5 LWB gets a fully vegan cabin with Copper Brown and Atlas Grey Veganza upholstery. The dashboard features BMW’s Curved Display, combining a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen. The illuminated BMW Interaction Bar runs across the dashboard and into the doors. It also integrates lighting and air-conditioning controls. Other details include crystal glass elements for the iDrive controller, volume knob and gear selector.

 

The front seats get electric adjustment and ventilation. The rear seats are designed for added comfort and have a more relaxed seating position. Rear passengers also get a central armrest with cupholders and wireless charging. Other features include a Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof, four-zone climate control and a 17-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 655 watts of output.

 

BMW i5 LWB battery, range and charging

 

The i5 eDrive35L gets a single electric motor driving the rear wheels. It produces 268hp and 410Nm of torque. BMW claims a 0-100km/h time of 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 195km/h.

 

BMW i5 Long Wheelbase

 

Power comes from an 81.6kWh battery, which offers a claimed range of up to 669km on the MIDC cycle. The car supports up to 11kW AC and 160kW DC charging. Using a fast charger, the battery can go from 10 to 80% in around 33 minutes. BMW also offers a Wallbox charger with installation as part of the package.

 

BMW i5 LWB suspension, driving modes and technology

 

The all-new i5 LWB gets adaptive rear-axle air suspension with increased ground clearance. BMW says the setup has been tuned for Indian road conditions while keeping the car comfortable and stable.

The car gets several MyModes, including Personal, Efficient, Sport, Expressive, Relax, Digital Art and more. These modes change settings such as lighting, sound, climate control and seats. The i5 LWB also gets one-pedal driving through B mode, while D mode uses adaptive energy recovery based on traffic conditions.

 

It runs BMW Operating System 8.5 and gets the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. The MyBMW app allows owners to check the car remotely, while Digital Key Plus lets a compatible smartphone or smartwatch work as a key. The digital key can be shared with up to 18 users. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available.

 

BMW i5 LWB safety and driver assistance features

 

The 2026 BMW i5 LWB comes with eight airbags, Dynamic Stability Control, an electric parking brake with auto hold, side-impact protection and child-seat mounting points. Driver assistance features include Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Parking Assistant Professional, lane change warning, cross-traffic warning, front and rear collision warning and exit warning. The sedan also gets remote parking through a smartphone, a manoeuvring assistant and reverse assistant.

 

BMW i5 LWB ownership, warranty and finance

 

BMW offers a two-year unlimited-kilometre warranty with the i5 LWB. It can be extended up to six years, while further coverage of up to 10 years or 2,00,000km is also available. The battery gets a separate warranty of eight years or 1,60,000km. Buyers can also choose BMW Service Inclusive and Service Inclusive Plus packages.

 

BMW India Financial Services is offering Smart Finance plans with monthly payments starting at Rs 79,999. The plan also includes an assured buyback value of 55% after four years. A two-year roadside assistance package is included. BMW also offers a Charging Concierge service to help owners find charging stations and plan longer journeys.
