The BMW i5 is an all-electric version of the 5 Series and it is available in its top spec M60 trim, which costs a whopping Rs 1.2 crore ex-showroom. If you fancy an all electric 5 Series but fall short on budget, fret not as the BMW i5 is all set to get cheaper in the Indian market with the introduction of lower variants. Read on to know more about the upcoming BMW i5 variants in the year 2025.

BMW i5 to get cheaper — New variants incoming

BMW India is gearing up to expand its all-electric i5 line-up by introducing more accessible variants of the electric sedan by the fourth quarter of 2025. Currently, the i5 is available only in its range-topping M60 xDrive form, priced at Rs 1.2 crore (ex-showroom). However, international markets also get two more variants—the i5 eDrive40 and the i5 xDrive40—both of which are now expected to make their way to Indian shores.

While the new variants are set to carry a more subdued design language compared to the aggressive styling of the i5 M60 xDrive, they share the same basic exterior and interior layout. All three versions are underpinned by the same 81.2kWh (net) battery pack, though power outputs and range figures vary.

The i5 eDrive40 features a single rear-mounted motor producing 340PS and 430Nm of torque. It boasts a WLTP-certified range of up to 582km on a single charge. When it comes to performance, BMW claims a 0-100kph sprint time of 6 seconds, with top speed electronically limited to 193kph.

The xDrive40, on the other hand, adds an additional motor on the front axle for all-wheel drive capability. Combined output stands at 394PS and 590Nm, and the official WLTP range is slightly lower at up to 538km. It’s also the quicker of the two, managing 0-100kph in a claimed 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 215kph.

Upcoming BMW i5 variants expected price

Given the price positioning of the BMW i4 at Rs 72.5 lakh and the i5 M60 xDrive at Rs 1.2 crore, BMW is expected to slot the i5 eDrive40 between the two, likely in the Rs 85 lakh to Rs 90 lakh range. This would help the brand tap into a niche that currently lacks a direct competitor – electric luxury sedans remain relatively rare in the Indian market compared to their SUV counterparts.

The launch of these new i5 variants is expected to further strengthen BMW India’s EV portfolio and offer a broader range of options to luxury EV buyers. More details are likely to be announced closer to the launch later this year. Currently, BMW India is gearing up to launch the 2nd-generation 2 Series Gran Coupe, which is likely to be brought in to the Indian market in both petrol and diesel forms.
