Kia becomes India's fifth-largest carmaker

Kia has now overtaken Toyota India for the second consecutive month, making it the fifth-largest-selling car brand in India in September 2026. Kia was also the only manufacturer among India's top five carmakers to record both month-on-month and year-on-year growth during the month, highlighting the strong momentum behind its recent sales performance.

The Seltos and Sonet continued to contribute a major share of Kia India's sales, together accounting for more than 70% of the company's total volume in September. The new-generation Seltos has maintained a strong run since its launch in January 2026, averaging more than 10,000 units a month. Kia's EV volumes also increased in September based on registration data, although the company has not released a model-wise wholesale sales split.

Higher production supports Kia's festive season demand

Kia's rising sales have been supported by increased production at its Anantapur plant. Supplier estimates reported in September suggested that monthly output had increased from around 24,000-27,000 units earlier in the year to as much as 35,500 units. The higher production capacity gives Kia more room to meet the growing demand and prepare for the festive season.
