MG Cyberster, M9 now available with Battery-as-a-Service — All details

MG SELECT, the luxury brand channel of JSW MG Motor India, has introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme for the MG Cyberster and MG M9. Under this scheme, the vehicle and battery are priced and financed separately, reducing the upfront cost of buying these luxury EVs.

With the new BaaS option, the MG Cyberster gets an introductory price that is Rs 10 lakh lower, while the MG M9 is Rs 9.95 lakh cheaper. Both models come with a battery rental charge of Rs 8.00 per km.

MG Cyberster BaaS price, features, & specs

The MG Cyberster is available with MG SELECT’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option at Rs 72.49 lakh, with a battery rental charge of Rs 8.00 per km. Its regular ex-showroom price is Rs 82.49 lakh.

The Cyberster is inspired by the classic MGB Roadster and gets a dramatic design with electric scissor doors, cockpit-style seating and a low-slung silhouette. Power comes from a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup that produces 510 PS and 725 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in around 3.2 seconds. MG has also called it "The World's Fastest MG" as part of its first lineup under the MG SELECT brand.

MG M9 BaaS price, features, & specs

The MG M9 is available with BaaS at Rs 69.99 lakh, with the same battery rental charge of Rs 8.00 per km. Its regular ex-showroom price is Rs 79.94 lakh. The M9 is focused more on comfort and luxury than performance. Its cabin features Presidential Seats with 16-way adjustment, eight massage modes, ventilation and heating. These functions can be controlled using the Intelligent Arm Rest for rear passengers.

Other features include a yacht-style dual sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting and a 13-speaker sound system. The M9 also gets Level 2 ADAS, a driver monitoring system (DMS) and seven airbags. It has a 5-star safety rating from both Euro NCAP and ANCAP.

How MG SELECT's Battery-as-a-Service model works

Under the BaaS model, the vehicle and battery are priced separately. Customers pay a lower upfront price for the car and then pay a fixed rental charge based on the distance they drive. For both the Cyberster and M9, the battery rental is Rs 8.00 per km. 

MG has already used this ownership model on some of its other electric vehicles in India. It can help buyers reduce the initial amount they need to pay when purchasing an EV. For luxury EVs, separating the battery cost from the vehicle price can also make the upfront price lower while keeping the same vehicle features and specifications.

MG SELECT's growing retail footprint

MG SELECT currently has 15 Experience Centres across 14 cities in India. These dedicated outlets are designed as gallery-style spaces where customers can experience its luxury models. The centres are part of MG SELECT's "Reimagining Luxury" approach and are aimed at offering a different retail experience from regular MG showrooms. The Cyberster and M9 are sold through this dedicated network as MG SELECT continues to expand its presence in the luxury car market.
