MG has globally unveiled a new electric SUV named the ES5. A prospective replacement for the MG ZS EV, the ES5 sits on SAIC’s Modular Scalable Platform Nebula. While the front might make you think of the ZS EV at the back of your mind, the ES5 looks quite different when viewed from the side or the rear. Here’s more information about the new MG ES5 electric SUV.
Upcoming MG ES5 electric SUV
The ES5 is a BEV that has just been introduced by MG and is expected to go on sale in China a few weeks from now. Sharing the Nebula platform with the electric MG ES4, the ES5 claims to come equipped with the world’s thinnest battery pack for a car. Talking about the dimensions, the ES5 measures 4,400mm in length, 1,800mm in width, 1,600mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,730mm. Notably, the wheelbase of the MG ZS EV stands at 2,585mm.

MG ES5 motor and battery options
The MG ES5 comes powered by a rear-mounted motor that produces 169PS of power and 250Nm of torque. Top speed has been limited to 170kmph and triple digit speeds are claimed to appear in 8 seconds. While MG has not yet disclosed the battery capacities, it says that the three battery options will come with claimed ranges of 425km, 515km, and 525km.
New MG ES5 interior and features
The MG 3S5 gets a large touchscreen at the centre that controls almost everything in the car, something which we aren’t really very fond of. The steering wheel is flattened at the top and the bottom, and there’s a digital driver’s display behind it. It also gets a panoramic sunroof, wireless smartphone charger, and more.
