Range Rover Sport Electric revealed globally — 550bhp, 850Nm and a 609km claimed range

JLR has unveiled the Range Rover Sport Electric, the first fully electric model in the Range Rover Sport line-up, and opened its order books in India. It uses the same 118.5kWh battery pack as the previously revealed Range Rover Electric, but gets a slightly higher claimed range of 609km. A dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup also gives it performance similar to the V8-powered Range Rover Sport.

Range Rover Sport Electric design and sound

The Range Rover Sport Electric closely follows the design of the regular Range Rover Sport. It gets sleek LED headlights, a black aero-optimised grille, Range Rover lettering on the bonnet and functional bumper air inlets. The side profile features flush door handles, blacked-out pillars and alloy wheels of up to 22 inches with aerodynamic inserts. At the rear, it gets wraparound LED tail lights, Range Rover lettering and a black Sport badge, with no separate EV badge.

The SUV is available in four variants: Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography and First Edition. Buyers can also choose the Black Pack or Satin Wrap, while the First Edition gets a Zadar Grey finish, black roof and 22-inch wheels. Autobiography buyers can further personalise the SUV through Range Rover Bespoke.

Range Rover Sport Electric interior and features

The cabin largely carries over from the regular Range Rover Sport, with EV-specific menus on its 13.1-inch touchscreen and 13.7-inch digital driver's display. It also gets a three-spoke steering wheel with touch controls. The SUV retains its five-seat layout and gets a wireless charger, four-zone climate control, rear sunblinds, and powered, heated and ventilated seats for both rows.

Range Rover Sport Electric battery, range and performance

The Range Rover Sport Electric uses JLR's 800-volt MLA-Flex platform, shared with the Range Rover Electric. It gets the same 118.5kWh battery but claims a slightly higher range of 609km. The battery is covered by an 8-year or 1.6 lakh km warranty, whichever comes first.

Two electric motors drive all four wheels, producing 550hp and 850Nm. JLR says torque builds 50% faster than in the Range Rover Electric, helping the SUV reach 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds, matching the V8-powered P540. DC fast charging supports up to 350kW, allowing a 10-80% charge in around 22 minutes. A 10-minute charge can add up to 220km of claimed range.

Range Rover Sport Electric chassis and driving technology

The electric SUV has a body structure that is 61% stiffer than the Range Rover Sport plug-in hybrid, while its centre of gravity is 73mm lower. These changes are combined with Adaptive Dynamics, Twin Valve Dampers, electronic Active Roll Control (eARC) and All-Wheel Steering.

The eARC system can apply up to 1,400Nm of force across each axle to control body movement during cornering. Adaptive Dynamics monitors 100 parameters 500 times per second to manage body roll and pitch during acceleration, braking and cornering. All-Wheel Steering also improves low-speed manoeuvrability, helping the large SUV make tighter turns with fewer steering inputs.

All-terrain capability

Despite its electric powertrain and sportier setup, the Range Rover Sport Electric retains the off-road capability of the Range Rover Sport. It uses virtual all-wheel drive and can wade through up to 900mm of water, while its maximum climbing ability is rated at 45 degrees. Range Rover tested the SUV in Italy's Carrara marble quarries as part of its final development programme. The testing included steep gradients and changing surfaces, including polished marble and loose marble dust.

Where the Range Rover Sport Electric is built

The Range Rover Sport Electric is designed, engineered and manufactured in the UK. It is built at the company's Solihull plant on the same production lines as the petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid versions of the SUV.
