The Renault Megane EV was recently spotted in Chennai, wearing green TN registration plates. Devoid of any camouflage, the Megane EV could be used for internal testing purposes or hinting towards its India launch. Read the story to know more about the Renault Megane EV and its India launch possibilities.
Renault Megane EV — Will it come to India?
The Renault Megane EV was unveiled in the global markets back in 2021. It was also under consideration for the Indian market as a CBU offering. Renault also flew Indian journalists to Europe to gauge the response for the Megane EV but the plans of its India launch didn’t materialise. Since then, the Megane EV has made several appearances on the Indian roads and the latest one was with green TN registration plates.

It’s no secret that Renault has been using its global cars—like the Koleos, Arkana and now Megane—for internal testing purposes, or even worse, ferrying the executives around. But does this new appearance of the Megane EV hint towards something more important? Renault is already testing the Dacia Spring EV a.k.a the Kwid EV all around India with heavy camouflage and the Duster-based EV is also under the works.
With the government's new EV policy enabling carmakers to import a sum of electric cars yearly against a major investment, this could be tempting for the French carmaker to consider. However, it is too early to speculate anything since there is no communication about the same from the Indian arm of Renault.
Renault Megane EV specifications
The Renault Megane EV comes packed with a 60kWh battery pack that channels power to a front-mounted electric motor, belting out 220PS of power and 300Nm of torque. On a single charge, Renault claims a certified driving range of 458km, which is on par with models like the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric and MG Windsor EV Pro. The Megane EV supports bi-directional 11kW AC charger, which can also be opted with a faster 22kW AC charger option.
