Outline

Skoda has been on a run in recent years with the Enyaq and Elroq setting strong sales numbers across Europe. Now the Czech brand is pushing further into the electric segment with a car aimed squarely at buyers who have been waiting for EVs to get more affordable. Series production of the Epiq, Skoda's most accessible electric model, officially began on 8 June 2026 at Volkswagen Group's Navarra plant in Pamplona, Spain.

Upcoming Skoda Epiq production begins in Spain

The Navarra plant is one of Volkswagen Group's key manufacturing sites. Founded in 1965 and part of the VW Group since 1984, the facility has produced over ten million vehicles and currently runs a daily output of more than 1,400 cars with a workforce of close to 5,000 people. Until now, the plant focused on combustion-engine models like the Taigo and T-Cross. The Epiq marks its move into full electric production, with the Volkswagen ID. Cross set to follow soon on the same line.

The Epiq is also a first in Skoda's history. It is the first Skoda model ever to be produced in Spain, and only the second in the current portfolio to be built outside the brand's home plants in the Czech Republic, after the Superb. Skoda says this approach lets it free up capacity at its Czech facilities for other high-demand models while benefiting from shared tooling and economies of scale across the VW Group's Brand Group Core.

What the Skoda Epiq brings to the table

The Epiq made its world debut on 19 May 2026 in Zurich, and production starting less than three weeks later is a fast turnaround. It is the first Skoda to be built on the new MEB+ platform and also the first to fully embrace the brand's Modern Solid design language across all elements.

At 4,171mm in length, it sits in the compact SUV category. The dimensions are modest, but Skoda has worked the platform well. The boot offers 475 litres of usable space, which rises to 1,345 litres with the rear seats folded down. That is a strong number for the segment and a practical argument for buyers comparing it against petrol-powered rivals.

Skoda Epiq battery, range, and charging

Buyers will have multiple battery and powertrain combinations to choose from. Output spans from 85kW at the base end to 155kW at the top, with the flagship variant delivering a WLTP-certified range of up to 441km. Fast charging can take the battery from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 24 minutes, which makes longer trips far more manageable.

The Epiq sits alongside three other models in VW Group's Electric Urban Car Family: the Volkswagen ID. Polo, Volkswagen ID. Cross, and CUPRA Raval. All four are produced at plants in Spain, a strategic clustering that gives the group significant production flexibility.

Skoda's EV ambitions in 2026

With a starting price of around €26,000 (roughly Rs. 26 lakh in Indian terms), the Epiq is Skoda's most affordable electric offering to date. Together with the upcoming Peaq, it is expected to double the brand's electric vehicle lineup in 2026. Skoda CEO Klaus Zellmer described the Epiq's production start as a historic moment for the brand, and it is hard to argue otherwise. A mass-market electric compact SUV at this price point, backed by the resources of the VW Group, is exactly the kind of product that could bring a wider audience to electric mobility.
