Outline

Skoda Auto India has been steadily expanding its lineup in 2026, and the Kylaq is next in line for a sportier derivative. Already regarded as one of the more driver-focused options in the sub-4-metre SUV segment, the Kylaq Sportline has now been officially confirmed for a September 2026 launch. Skoda India's brand director has also shared the launch timeline along with a few early details about the upcoming model.

Speaking to Autocar India, Skoda India brand director Ashish Gupta confirmed that the Kylaq will receive a Sportline trim in September 2026. This follows a pattern already established by Skoda with the Kushaq Sportline and Slavia Sportline, both of which added visual and cabin upgrades to make those cars feel sportier without changing the fundamental mechanical package.

The announcement was originally made during the Kushaq facelift unveil event held earlier this year, though a specific launch date was not given at the time. The September 2026 window has now been confirmed, giving buyers a clearer expectation of when to expect the new variant.

What changes can be expected on the Skoda Kylaq Sportline's exterior?

Based on the Sportline treatment seen on the Kushaq and Slavia, the Kylaq Sportline is expected to get a range of blacked-out exterior elements. These are likely to include gloss black alloy wheels, black ORVMs, black badges, black door handles, a black roof and faux skid plates. There may also be a dedicated Sportline spoiler and badging to visually differentiate it from the standard lineup. A black bonnet, if offered, would be a notable addition since the sub-4m SUV segment has not seen that treatment since the Tata Altroz Racer.

Inside, the Kylaq Sportline is expected to carry a full black cabin theme with red contrast stitching and piping on the upholstery, red highlights on the dashboard, aluminium pedals and dedicated Sportline badging throughout. The dual-tone approach with contrasting colour detailing has been well received on the Kushaq and Slavia Sportline versions and is likely to translate well to the Kylaq.

Skoda Kylaq Sportline Engine — 1.0 TSI, RS version being evaluated

Powering the Kylaq Sportline at launch will be the existing 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 120 PS. Transmission options are expected to include both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Importantly, when Gupta was asked about a potential Kylaq RS variant with the more powerful 1.5-litre TSI engine, he confirmed it is under consideration.

This is significant news for enthusiasts. The 1.5 TSI engine already powers both the Kushaq and Slavia in India, so the hardware compatibility is established. The Kylaq rides on the same MQB A0 IN platform as those two vehicles, which means the technical feasibility of a more powerful RS version is real. That said, a Kylaq RS has not been confirmed and would likely arrive as a separate product decision at a later stage.

Variant positioning and pricing

The Kylaq is currently available in six trim levels: Classic, Classic+, Signature, Signature+, Prestige and Prestige+. The Sportline variant is expected to be slotted below the top-spec Prestige trims, which is consistent with how the Kushaq and Slavia Sportline are positioned. This would put it somewhere in the mid-to-upper range of the Kylaq lineup. Exact pricing will be announced at launch. Given the Kushaq Sportline's pricing strategy, the Kylaq Sportline is expected to command a modest premium over the equivalent standard variant.

Rivals

Once launched, the Kylaq Sportline will bring a sportier option to the competitive sub-4m SUV space. It will take on rivals like the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza and Mahindra XUV 3XO. None of these currently offer a Sportline-type variant in the traditional Skoda sense, which could give the Kylaq Sportline a distinct visual identity in this crowded segment.
