After a hiatus of six years, Tata Motors has reintroduced its passenger vehicles to the South African market, starting with the Punch, Tiago, Curvv, and Harrier. Tata now sells both passenger as well as commercial vehicles in South Africa. Read more about this development here.

Tata Motors used to sell passenger vehicles in South Africa earlier, but it exited the market back in 2019, with only commercial vehicles continuing to be on sale. The Indian carmaker has now re-entered the South African market for a fresh innings, with four of its cars and SUVs as its introductory portfolio.

The carmaker is currently offering only petrol and diesel vehicles in the country, with alternative powertrains like CNG and electric likely to follow in the future. At present, its lineup includes the Tata Punch with a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, Tata Tiago with a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, Tata Curvv with the less powerful 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, and Tata Harrier with its 2.0-litre diesel engine.

Tata has partnered with Motus Holdings for distribution, retail, and aftersales services of its passenger vehicles in the African country. It has begun operations with 40 dealerships, which it plans to expand to 60 by next year.
