New car GST rates 2025

The GST on small cars has been cut from 28% to 18%, effectively lowering the tax by 10%. This applies to cars under 4,000mm in length with petrol engines up to 1,200cc and diesel engines up to 1,500cc. For larger cars over 4,000mm, the previous GST was 28%, plus an additional cess of up to 22%, pushing the total tax burden close to 50% depending on engine size. Now, cars with engines over 1,500cc fall under a flat 40% tax slab. Electric vehicles remain at a steady 5% GST, with no changes.
