Outline

VinFast had barely finished unveiling the second generation of its VF 8 electric SUV in Vietnam when something interesting showed up in India. A design patent for the new model has been filed with Indian authorities, confirming at least an official intention to protect the intellectual property of the new vehicle in this market. More tellingly, sources familiar with the matter have confirmed that the VF 8 will indeed come to India, although a specific launch timeline has not been shared.

For a brand that entered India only last year with the VF 6 and VF 7, this is a notable step forward. The VF 8 would become VinFast's flagship offering in India if launched, sitting above the VF 7 in their SUV lineup.

What is new in the 2026 VinFast VF 8

The 2026 VinFast VF 8 is a major departure from the first-generation model rather than just a mild update. VinFast says the SUV follows its new “Tech Fluid” design philosophy. The front gets full-width wing-shaped LED DRLs with the VinFast logo at the centre, along with a large gloss-black grille area.

At the rear, the SUV features a large black applique connecting the LED tail lamps, along with a V-shaped light signature. The side profile now gets new 19-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels, semi-flush door handles, and chrome detailing around the window line.

Inside, the second-gen VF 8 moves to a 12.9-inch touchscreen, a dedicated driver display, and a steering column-mounted gear selector. Dual-zone climate control with an air purifier, a powered driver seat, a 360-degree camera, and an ADAS suite are part of the package. VinFast is also promoting a software-defined vehicle architecture on the new model, which means more of the car's functions are managed through software and can be updated over the air.

2026 VinFast VF 8 battery & range

The 2026 VinFast VF 8 gets a smaller 60.13 kWh battery pack compared to the older model’s 87.7 kWh unit. Even with the smaller battery, the claimed NEDC range stands at 500 km, while the earlier version claimed around 562 km.

The SUV is now offered only with a front-wheel-drive setup powered by a single electric motor producing 228 hp and 330 Nm. There is no AWD option this time. VinFast says the battery can charge from 10 to 70% in under 30 minutes using fast charging. The VF 8 also comes with Eco, Normal, and Sport driving modes. The SUV also gets a new frequency selective damper setup on both axles to improve ride comfort on different road conditions.

New-Gen VinFast VF 8 may launch in India

VinFast entered the Indian market at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 with the VF 6 and VF 7. The company is also setting up a manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. More recently, VinFast launched the VF MPV 7 in India at a starting price of Rs 24.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

If launched, the VF 8 would become the brand’s premium offering in India and also the first second-generation VinFast product for the market. While patent filings do not always confirm a launch, VinFast’s growing investment and local expansion plans suggest the VF 8 could genuinely be headed to India.

What to expect on VinFast VF 8 price

The VF 8 starts at VND 999 million in Vietnam, which converts to roughly Rs 36 lakh. However, India pricing will depend on import duties, localisation levels, and how VinFast chooses to position it. Given the specs, a range of Rs 40 to 55 lakh (ex-showroom) would be a reasonable estimate if it arrives as an import. If it is produced at the Tamil Nadu facility, pricing could be more competitive.
