10 Best Upcoming Cars To Buy In 2022

Many Indian and international car manufacturers have lined up a number of proposed launches in 2022. Many of these upcoming cars include facelift versions of older models along with completely new models. The newer models include advanced fuel types and electrical options apart from safety and comfort features. Many of the updates are also made in compliance with the latest emission norms. Many popular brands such as Hyundai, Skoda, etc., are launching updated variants of their most popular models.

Below is the list of the 10 best upcoming to cars to buy in India in 2022.

  1. Toyota Hilux

Toyota Hilux

Toyota is expected to launch the Hilux in January 2022. This particular model would be based on a similar platform as the Toyota Innova and Fortuner. Hilux would be available as a diesel-only option and a 2498 cc engine. It will be available with an automatic transmission, four-wheel drive, and turbocharger. This four-door pick-up truck will compete with the likes of Isuzu D-Max. The estimated price of this model would start from Rs. 18 lakhs. 

  1. Skoda Slavia

This premium mid-size sedan by Skoda is a replacement for the older Skoda Rapid. It is going to carry over many of the design elements from Skoda Rapid. The Slavia will be available as a petrol-only option with two transmission options (6-speed manual and automatic and 7-speed automatic). It would be available with two engine options, 1.0 TSI with the power of 85 kilowatts and a 1.5 TSI with a power of 110 kilowatts. Its estimated price range is around Rs. 10 to 15 lakhs. It would rival the likes of Honda City and Hyundai Verna. It is expected to launch in January 2022.

For the past few years, Tucson has been one of the most popular SUV models in the Indian car market. Previously it has had two facelifts, with the latest model being the 4th generation launched in 2020. The 2022 version is expected to launch in the month of March. This variant will be available as a petrol-only option, 1998 cc engine, manual gearbox with the starting price of Rs. 25 lakhs. The most distinctive design change has been done to the exterior of the car to make it look bolder. 

  1. Maruti Suzuki Jimny

This compact SUV by Maruti Suzuki is set to launch in India in the April of 2022. With its successful launch in the European car market, Maruti Suzuki has decided to bring this model to Indian customers. Jimny will be available to the customers with the manual gearbox, with a power output of 101 bhp and 130 Nm of torque. It will have off-roading features such as four-wheel drive, hill descent control, high ground clearance, and a differential locking system that would give it an edge while driving on difficult terrain. Moreover, the pricing, estimated to be around Rs. 10 lakhs, makes it a great off-roading option for customers.

Citroen C3

The French carmaker Citroen is set to enter the Indian car market with the launch of Citroen C3. This hatchback will be tailored to meet the needs of Indian customers. It will be available as a petrol-only model with a 1.2L turbo petrol engine. It will be available with two transmission options, including a 5-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The interiors will have quirky features like a bright orange dashboard panel, and the exterior will be fitted with distinctive-looking air-con vents. Further, it will have three-spoke steering, an integrated headrest, and other distinctive features. It will also have competitive pricing as it will be locally manufactured in India. It is set to launch in the first half of 2022. It will rival the likes of Tata Nexon. 

  1. Mahindra Scorpio

India’s favourite SUV will be launched with a new generation upgrade around June 2022. Scorpio has been a favourite for the last twenty years, and with the launch of the newest model, customers will see a major designing and engineering upgrade. The new Scorpio will have two fuel options, a 2.0L, 4-cylinder mHawk diesel, and a 2.0L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol unit. It will put out a maximum power output of 155 bhp with 360 Nm of torque. It will be available with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox with RWD (rear-wheel drive) system as standard, while AWD (all-wheel drive) system will be reserved for higher trims. Scorpio will offer 4 off-road drive modes – Rock, Snow, Mud, and 4 High and 4 Low for the AWD system. 

7. Tata Altroz EV

Tata is expected to launch the electric version of Altroz in June 2022. It will be available with automatic transmission and a driving range of 300 km or more. It will come with a new grille, a redesigned air dam, a teal blue colour, and electric blue accents. The battery pack might be borrowed from Nexon EV. Its estimated price should be between Rs. 12 to 15 lakhs. 

8. Tesla Model 3

Tesla is set to launch its second model in India, possibly by early 2022. Prices are likely to be around Rs. 60 lakh. It will have features such as adaptive cruise control, lane changing assist, park assist, and blind-spot monitoring. However, it might miss out on the auto-pilot driving assistance. The interiors, along with the infotainment system, will be the same as the American and European models. It is likely to be available in two variants – Standard Range Plus and Long-Range versions. The Standard variant gets a range of 423 km produced by a single electric motor and a rear-wheel-drive system. Whereas the Long-Range variant gets a range of 569 km, dual motors with an all-wheel-drive system. Other features include a 360-degree camera, heated seats, and a tinted glass roof.  

9. Kia Carens 

This seven-seater MPV is expected to launch in the first half of 2022. It is likely to be powered by 1.5L diesel and petrol engines sourced from Kia Seltos. It will be offered as both automatic and manual transmission. Apart from the third-row seats, it will have features like LED DRLs and headlamps, roof-mounted spoiler, roof rails, and split LED lamps. The interiors will have 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment along with a three-spoke steering wheel. The expected price for this model is between 15 to Rs. 20 lakhs. It will rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki XL6 and Mahindra Marazzo.

10. Mahindra eXUV300

Mahindra is expected to launch the electric version of XUV300 at the start of 2022. The price of this model is expected to be between Rs. 13 to 16 lakhs. It will be available in two variants – Standard and Extended Range, which will offer a range of around 200 km and 375 km, respectively. This model will carry a closed-off front grille and the newly-designed headlamps and alloy wheels. It will be offered with automatic transmission.
