The law knowing you is as important as you knowing the law. Confused? We’ll explain.

Recently, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) extended the deadline for updating the Know Your Customer (KYC) process for FASTag till February 29th, 2024.

While a lot of you have already jumped the wagon, a considerable number of people still find themselves uncertain. If you're among those unsure about how to proceed with your FASTag KYC update, we’ve got you covered. Read on to find out how.

What are the new FASTag regulations?

FASTag regulations

To make electronic toll collection smoother and ensure seamless vehicle movement at toll booths, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) introduced the "One Vehicle, One FASTag” initiative on January 15th.

The initiative aims to discourage the practice of using a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a single vehicle. The NHAI mandated the completion of the Know Your Customer (KYC) process for FASTags in accordance with the latest RBI guidelines.

Further, the body emphasised that the failure to comply may result in the deactivation of active FASTags with valid balances. NHAI also encourages users to deactivate multiple FASTags issued by their banks and maintain only one active FASTag, with the necessary FASTag KYC update completed.

Why update KYC for FASTag?

Updating KYC (Know Your Customer) for FASTag is important for several reasons:

  1. Regulatory Compliance: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), mandate that users maintain updated KYC information for financial transactions, including FASTag usage.
  2. Security: Verifying and updating KYC details helps prevent fraudulent activities associated with FASTag transactions, enhancing overall security for users and the system.
  3. Smooth Transactions:Updated KYC ensures seamless transactions at toll plazas, reducing delays and avoiding inconveniences during travel.
  4. Regulatory Changes:Regulatory requirements and guidelines for FASTag usage may change over time. Keeping KYC information updated ensures compliance with any new regulations or standards.
  5. Service Continuity:Failure to update KYC information within specified timelines can lead to deactivation of the FASTag account, resulting in disruption of services such as cashless toll payments.
