Jaguar I-Pace
It's no secret that Jaguar has set its sights on an all-electric future by 2026 , signalling the end of its era of big, powerful V8 and V6 engines. The Jaguar I-Pace was the first all-electric Jaguar to make its debut in the market and is the best preview of Jags to come in the future. However, the question remains: does this new electric Jaguar deliver the same level of sportiness and character that typifies traditional Jaguars?
| Pros | Cons |
| Fun-to-drive | A little too expensive when compared to alternatives |
| Practical | Average in-cabin experience |
| Clean and elegant exterior styling |
From the outside, the new I-Pace continues to boast the unmistakable Jaguar charm with its signature face and sleek curves. However, what sets it apart is its unique proportions, with wheels pushed to the corners and short overhangs, giving it a distinct identity. Despite not being as imposing as some of its competitors, like the Model X, the I-Pace boasts a wide stance and elevated suspension, offering up to 230mm of ground clearance in off-road mode. The side profile is equally striking, complemented by 19-inch multi-spoke wheels that add to its sporty appeal. Overall, the Jaguar I-Pace strikes a balance between sportiness and sophistication while retaining the good old Jaguar vibe.
If you wanted a fresh character of an electric car which was somehow missing outside, you will definitely like the car from the inside as the cabin, despite all the elegance, boasts a new layout with a multi-screen setup and rich dual-tone interior colour scheme. Most of the controls of the cars are easily accessible via the line of the two screens in the centre along with the buttons on the consoles while the learning curve too is easy. The overall sound insulation inside the cabin is great and the large sunroof does elevate the overall experience.
Jaguar cars are renowned for blending sportiness with exceptional in-cabin comfort, and the I-Pace is no exception. Up front, passengers are treated to 16-way power-adjustable seats that provide superb support and ensure a comfortable seating experience, even during long journeys. Similarly, the rear seats offer ample space, with sufficient legroom and headroom to accommodate even taller passengers without any complaints.
The Jaguar I-Pace defies electric car stereotypes and with its claimed output of 400hp and 696Nm torque of maximum torque, gives other sportscars a tough run for their money. A claimed 0-100kph in 4.8 seconds, nearly 50-50 weight distribution and all-wheel drive torque vectoring, the new I-Pace manoeuvres agilely through corners and will not break a sweat even when pushed hard. Despite its performance, the I-Pace remains a calm daily driver, with a silent drivetrain and minimal road noise at city speeds. Selectable creep mode and adjustable regen braking offer further customizations based on the driver’s individual preferences.
| Powertrain | Dual-motor electric |
| Maximum Power | 400hp |
| Maximum Torque | 696Nm |
| Transmission | Single Speed |
| Seating Capacity | 5 |
| Type | Electric |
| Range | 480km |
The Jaguar I-Pace comes equipped with a range of safety features designed to ensure a secure driving experience. These include airbags, active brake assist, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree camera system for enhanced visibility. Additionally, it offers optional features such as the ClearSight inner rearview camera system and motor drag control, which adjusts regenerative braking on slippery surfaces. However, it's worth noting that some advanced driver-assistance features like blind-spot monitoring and lane-keep assist are not included in the standard package.
If a hefty features list is something you aspire for, the Jaguar I-Pace might be a great fit and what you do get with the range-topping versions are features like 16-way adjustable powered front seats with heating and ventilation, adaptive cruise control, heads-up display, Meridian 3D sound system, gesture-controlled tailgate, and a four-zone climate control setup in addition to other features like a 360-degree camera, connected tech, powered tailgate and more. There is a dual-screen setup for all your infotainment and HVAC controls in the centre while the third screen utilised for the instrument console too offers a lot of information.
With prices exceeding the Rs 1 crore mark, the Jaguar I-Pace had lofty expectations to meet, and it has certainly delivered. Quick, silent, clean, comfortable, and practical, it shows what the future of Jaguar looks like. While traditionalists may yearn for the roar of V8 engines, the I-Pace carves its niche in the luxury EV market, marking the dawn of a whole new, electric era, for the Jaguar enthusiast.
