Outline

Genesis has unveiled the GV90, its first full-size flagship SUV. It was revealed at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. The GV90 is based on the Neolun concept shown in 2024 and comes with features such as hidden coach doors, 12 airbags and a large 123.5kWh battery, the biggest battery used in a Hyundai Motor Group EV so far. The GV90 will be available in two versions. The GV90 Neolun gets new hidden B-pillar coach doors, while the standard GV90 uses conventional doors.

Genesis has taken inspiration from the moon jar, a traditional Korean porcelain vessel known for its simple and clean shape, for the GV90's exterior design. Instead of adding too many details Genesis has used SUV's proportions and smooth curves.

At the front, the GV90 gets Wing Face Micro Lens Array headlamps. They sit below a clamshell bonnet and are built into the body. The lower bumper gets a 3D dual-layer G-matrix chrome grille. At the rear, Genesis design is pretty simple, skipping a spoiler and using flush-mounted tail lights and Genesis lettering. The GV90 Neolun can be identified by the anodised aluminium trim between the first- and second-row windows. The standard GV90 instead gets flush-mounted door glass.

Hyundai Genesis GV90 Neolun Edition

Genesis has also revealed the GV90 Neolun First Edition, a limited-run version based on the four-seat Executive Suite layout. It gets a two-tone exterior, 24-inch body-colour forged wheels and wool-cashmere upholstery as standard. First Edition badges are added to the Crystal Sphere Controller, headrests and door sills. It will be available in three exterior and interior colour combinations.

Hyundai Genesis GV90 Neolun Arch Gate — How the hidden coach doors work

The biggest highlight of the GV90 Neolun is its Arch Gate door system, which Genesis calls the world's first hidden B-pillar coach door system with independently opening front and rear doors. With no visible B-pillar, the doors open in opposite directions to create a wide entry.

The rear doors use a special two-step hinge that first moves the door outward and then opens it. This makes entry and exit easier for rear passengers. To maintain safety without a B-pillar, Genesis has added a hidden roll cage. The cabin frame is 1.5 times thicker than a regular Genesis model and uses high-strength steel and structural foam. The doors also get strong steel beams to handle crash forces. Genesis says the safety level is similar to a vehicle with a conventional B-pillar.

Inside, the Genesis GV90 gets a new power system that removes the traditional start button. Pulling the door handle powers up the SUV, while the Motion Column Shifter and Crystal Sphere Controller automatically move into position. Pressing the brake starts the drive.

The dashboard features a 23.6-inch pop-up OLED display, along with a 25-inch head-up display and a 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system with Dolby Atmos.  The Pleos Connect infotainment system is based on Android Automotive OS and supports third-party apps through the Pleos App Market. Gleo AI enables voice control for cabin functions and information searches. Other features include ambient lighting, massage seats with air cells and vibration, a heated windscreen, and heated armrests for the front and second rows.

The GV90 Neolun Executive Suite gets a four-seat layout with a wooden second-row floor, radiant heating and a Comfort Partition. It also features a six-zone Smart Vision Roof, semi-aniline leather seats, a second-row console, refrigerator and integrated tables.

Hyundai Genesis GV90 safety features

Safety is a key focus of the GV90, which gets 12 airbags, including the world's first Roof Airbag. Other safety features include dual-depth front airbags, seat-cushion airbags, curtain airbags for all three rows, side airbags, knee airbags and an in-cabin monitoring system.

The SUV also gets cast and extruded aluminium construction, ultra-high-strength steel, Thermal Runaway Protection and a cloud-based Battery Management System. For parking, the GV90 gets Remote Smart Parking Assist 3 and Memory Reversing Assist.

Hyundai Genesis GV90 battery, range, & suspension

The all-new Genesis GV90 is based on the eMP platform and gets a 123.5kWh battery, the largest battery used in a Hyundai Motor Group EV so far. The seven-seat SUV has a claimed range of around 500km, while 350kW fast charging takes the battery from 10 to 80% in 22 minutes.

The dual-motor setup produces a combined 490kW and 800Nm. The front motor makes 240kW and 350Nm, while the rear motor produces 250kW and 450Nm. It also gets Dual E-LSD for better traction.

The GV90 gets multi-chamber air suspension and electronically controlled dampers that adjust to road conditions. Active rear-wheel steering can turn the rear wheels by up to five degrees, helping reduce the turning radius and making the large SUV easier to park. The GV90 comes equipped with a four-piston front brake calliper with large brake discs. Genesis has also used thick acoustic glass and extra soundproofing to keep the cabin quieter.
