Maruti e-Vitara launch delayed — Here's the new schedule
- 1Maruti Suzuki to export e Vitara to over 100 countries
- 2Maruti e Vitara India launch expected by next 2026
- 3Suzuki to launch four electric vehicles by year 2030
Maruti Suzuki recently lit the green flag on the commencement of e Vitara production at its Hansalpur plant in Gujarat. That was a big positive step, but don’t get your hopes up about seeing it on Indian roads just yet. The Maruti e Vitara launch is still caught in delays.
The issue? The brand’s priority at the moment is the international market. That wouldn’t be a problem if everything were going according to plan overseas. But it’s not. A mix of external challenges—particularly a shortage of key components—is holding things back globally. That’s created a domino effect, pushing the Maruti e Vitara India launch further down the road too. It's a frustrating situation, especially considering this is Maruti's first real step into the EV space.
Maruti e Vitara launch slowed by component shortages

Maruti Suzuki is trying to make a presence with its first EV, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, in global markets before bringing it to Indian roads. The brand’s focus on fulfilling overseas commitments is creating a ripple effect, pushing back the domestic launch.
According to the brand, the delays are tied to supply chain setbacks—mainly a bottleneck around a critical component: rare earth magnets.
For those who aren’t aware, rare earth magnets like neodymium are a crucial part of any EV. They’re used in permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs)—the kind that powers most electric vehicles today. These magnets are what make PMSMs so efficient. They help deliver high torque, improve motor performance, and play a direct role in extending the driving range.
