Outline

Renault India gave us the first glimpse of the Kwid EV back at the 2020 Auto Expo, where the French carmaker showcased the Renault K-ZE. The Kwid EV is sold in multiple global markets under both Renault and Dacia brands and the latter calls it the Spring EV. Dacia took the wraps off the new-gen Spring EV back in July 2024, featuring an all-new design and more features than before. The new-gen Dacia Spring was recently spotted in India wearing heavy camouflage and is likely to be called the Renault Kwid EV in India. Here is everything you need to know about the Renault Kwid EV and its possibility for an India launch.

Renault Kwid EV Spotted Wearing Camouflage

Having camouflage on a car is the first indicator of a vehicle being actively considered for market launch and the Dacia Spring EV is no exception. Renault has been contemplating to launch the Kwid EV for a few years now and it seems like the plans are finally being materialised. As part of Renault India’s future roadmap, the carmaker has decided to launch an A-segment electric hatchback, which will also spawn a Nissan sibling. The new Dacia Spring EV, which will of course be rebadged to Renault along with a new name, should be a great rival to small electric vehicles like the Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV

Renault Kwid EV Design

The new-gen Dacia Spring EV continues with the handsome exterior design of its predecessor, while carrying a lot more flair. The front profile now looks more butch thanks to the inclusion of gloss black elements, larger grille design, and sportier bumpers. Like before, the Spring EV gets split headlights with the main headlights moving to LED projectors. Around the side, the changes are minimal and it retains its tall stance. At the back, the Dacia Spring EV sees big revisions in terms of new LED tail lights, which are connected with a black applique featuring Dacia branding, new rear bumper and tail gate design.

Renault Kwid EV Interior And Features

Like the exterior, the new-gen Dacia Spring EV has also seen a slew of revisions on the inside. The dashboard now looks more premium thanks to a revamped layout which boasts a layered finish. The centre of attraction is a freestanding touchscreen infotainment system, which features the connectivity of both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other features include a new multi-function steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster, revised AC controls and more.

Renault Kwid EV Battery And Motor

Powering the Dacia Spring EV is a front mounted electric motor, which comes in two power outputs — 45PS and 65PS. The electric motor draws power from a 26.8kWh battery pack that supports AC charging of 7kW and DC fast charging of up to 30kW. On a single charge, the Dacia Spring EV can go up to 225km. It is worth mentioning that the claimed range is as per WLTP cycle and the more-lenient Indian ARAI cycle should result in more range, if tested for our market.

Renault Kwid EV Launch Timeline

It is no secret that Renault is already working on an A-segment electric vehicle along with Nissan for the Indian market. The presence of the new-gen Dacia Spring EV reinforces its direct link to the model planned for India launch. Renault Kwid EV is said to be launched by 2026 alongside the launch of the Nissan small electric vehicle, which will share its underpinnings and powertrain with the Kwid EV.
