Tata Motors' Punch EV has received a full 5-star safety rating from the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP) in both the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP) categories. The official Bharat NCAP fact sheet provides a detailed breakdown of the compact electric SUV's performance across standardised crash tests conducted in May 2026.
2026 Tata Punch EV variants covered under the Bharat NCAP rating
Under the Bharat NCAP crash test, the 2026 Tata Punch EV ADV 40 and EMP+S 40 variants were selected for assessment. The compact electric SUV has a two-row seating layout and was tested at a crash weight of 1,613 kg. The 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating applies to six Punch EV variants: SMT+ 40, ADV 40, EMP 40, EMP+S 40, SMT 30 and SMT+ 30. All six variants were assessed in May 2026, with the model manufactured in India.
Tata Punch EV Bharat NCAP crash test — Adult occupant protection
The Tata Punch EV scored 31.09 out of 32 points in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category, earning a full 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating. The score included 15.28 out of 16 points in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test and 15.80 out of 16 points in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test. The Punch EV was also rated “OK” in the Side Pole Impact Test, which assesses occupant protection during a severe side-impact collision.

Across the frontal offset and side movable barrier tests, the dummy assessment charts included in the fact sheet show predominantly "Good" ratings (marked in green) across the head, chest, pelvis and leg regions for both driver and passenger positions, with only limited "Adequate" (yellow) markings in specific zones, indicating strong structural and restraint performance during impact.

Tata Punch EV Bharat NCAP rating — Child occupant protection
In the Child Occupant Protection (COP) category, the Tata Punch EV scored 45 out of 49 points, earning a 5-star safety rating. It received a full 24 out of 24 points in the Dynamic Score and 12 out of 12 points for Child Restraint System (CRS) installation. The vehicle assessment score stood at 9 out of 13 points.

Dynamic testing was conducted using the Joie i-Spin Safe child restraint system, an i-SIZE-compliant seat installed in a rearward-facing position using ISOFIX anchors and a support leg. Both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old child dummies received the maximum scores, with 8 out of 8 points for frontal impact protection and 4 out of 4 points for side-impact protection.

Child seat compatibility across seating positions
The Bharat NCAP fact sheet confirms that ISOFIX and i-Size child-seat mounts are standard on the second-row outboard seats. These mounts are not available on the front passenger seat or the second-row centre seat. The Punch EV does not offer an integrated Child Restraint System (CRS) in any seating position.
The separate CRS installation assessment recorded a “Pass” result for the second-row left and right seats across most of the child seats tested. These included the Peg Perego Viaggio Switchable, Graco Cadeira Nautilus, Cybex Solution M-Fix and Joie i-Spin Safe i-SIZE. The front passenger and third-row positions were marked as not applicable due to the Punch EV's two-row layout and the assessment protocol.
Tata Punch EV standard safety equipment
According to the Bharat NCAP fact sheet, the Tata Punch EV comes with standard driver and front passenger airbags. The SUV also gets driver-side seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters, along with side head curtain airbags covering the front and rear occupants. Side chest airbags are provided for the driver and front passenger, while knee and side pelvis airbags are not available.
Other standard safety features include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), pedestrian protection and a Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) system for the front and rear occupants. The Bharat NCAP fact sheet confirms that ESC, side head protection, pedestrian protection and seatbelt reminders are standard across all six Punch EV variants covered under the rating.
