Tata Sierra EV launch near — There’s more to it than you think
- 1Tata Sierra EV launch expected around May 2026
- 2Will be based on Tata’s Acti.ev platform
- 3Expected range could go beyond 500 km
For those following the Tata Sierra EV, this has been a long wait. The electric Sierra was first shown at Auto Expo 2023 and has been pushed back a few times since. The ICE Sierra came first in November 2025 and saw strong demand, with over 20,000 units sold in four months. That clearly showed the name still has strong recall.
Now, the Tata Sierra EV is expected to launch in May 2026. This time, the timeline feels more certain. Unlike the ICE Sierra, which uses the Argos platform, the Sierra EV will be based on Tata’s Acti.ev architecture. This is the same platform used in the Punch EV, Curvv EV and Harrier EV.
Tata Sierra EV to borrow exterior styling from ICE Sierra

Earlier teaser videos, released around the Sierra’s initial showcase, had briefly shown the Sierra EV alongside the ICE model. That gave an early hint of what the electric version could look like.
From those glimpses, it was clear the Tata Sierra EV would not just be the ICE version with a charging port. It gets its own identity.
Up front, there is a closed grille, a revised bumper and a new skid plate. The lighting is updated as well, with connected LED light bars at the front and rear. Other details include aero-style alloy wheels, flush door handles and the signature wraparound rear glass. The upright bonnet and boxy shape stay, keeping the Sierra feel intact.
Tata Sierra EV battery & range
Tata Motors has not shared exact powertrain details yet, but the Sierra EV is likely to follow the brand’s usual dual battery approach seen on models like the Nexon EV, Curvv EV and Harrier EV.
It could come with a 55 kWh battery for lower variants and a 65 kWh battery for higher trims, with a claimed range going up to around 538 km.
There is also talk of a larger 75 kWh option, similar to the Harrier EV, which could push it closer to rivals like the Mahindra BE 6. Overall, the claimed range is expected to be over 500 km, though real-world numbers will vary.
Tata Sierra EV AWD option expected at launch

One of the more interesting possibilities with the Sierra EV is the addition of an all wheel drive option at launch. This is based on how Tata has approached the Harrier EV, where demand for dual motor setups turned out to be stronger than expected.
Reports suggest the Sierra EV could come with both rear wheel drive and all wheel drive versions from the start. If that happens, it would give it an advantage in a space where most rivals still stick to front wheel drive.
Tata Sierra EV launch timeline
Tata Motors had earlier indicated that the Sierra EV would arrive in the first quarter of FY2027, which points to an April to June timeline. Current expectations suggest a May 2026 launch window. Both the Sierra EV and the ICE version will be produced at Tata’s Sanand plant in Gujarat. This is the same facility acquired from Ford, with an annual capacity of around 4.2 lakh units.
Tata Sierra EV price expectations

The upcoming Tata Sierra EV is expected to be priced above Rs 19 lakh ex showroom, placing it above the Tata Curvv EV in the lineup. It will step into a competitive space, going up against models like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Mahindra BE 6 and Toyota Urban Cruiser eBella.
