Kia Carnival Safety Rating: Adult & Child Protection Score

20 Sept 2024
Outline

The safety rating of a car is one of the most crucial factors that buyers consider when making their investments. As safety technology and standards continue to evolve, so do the safety ratings of vehicles. The Carnival, Kia's MUV offering, was one of the vehicles that underwent a safety assessment by Australasian NCAP (ANCAP), an independent safety organisation that conducts crash tests to evaluate the safety of cars.

The Kia Carnival safety rating for 2023 has been a topic of interest for car enthusiasts and safety-conscious buyers. The Kia Carnival received a 5-star safety rating from ANCAP, which assesses the safety of cars in various categories, including adult and child occupant protection. The Kia Carnival scored 34.54 points out of 38 for adult safety and 43.52 points out of 49 for child safety.

In this blog, we will take a closer look at the Kia Carnival safety rating for 2023, including the crash test results, safety features, and other factors that contribute to the rating. We will also discuss some of the most significant safety features of the Kia Carnival. So, if you are planning to buy the Kia Carnival or are just interested in learning about car safety, keep reading to find out more.

Kia Carnival Adult Occupant Protection Rating

The Kia Carnival scored 34.54 out of 38 in adult safety, translating to a highly coveted 5-star rating, indicating that it provides excellent safety to the driver and front passenger. The Kia Carnival's passenger area held up well during the frontal crash test. The dummies used showed that the driver's and passenger's upper and lower legs were reasonably protected. However, the front structure of the Kia Carnival could potentially pose a low-moderate risk for the occupants of an oncoming vehicle in case of a frontal collision.

When it comes to a full-width frontal crash test, the driver and rear passenger's critical body parts were well protected, but the neck and chest of the rear passenger showed vulnerability. In side-impact and slanted pole tests, the Kia Carnival did a great job of keeping all the critical body parts safe.

Kia Carnival Child Occupant Protection rating

Moving on to child occupant protection, the Kia Carnival scored 43.52 out of 49 in child safety, which translates to a five-star rating. The Kia Carnival received a GOOD rating for child occupant protection in frontal offset and side-impact tests. This means that child dummies representing a 10-year-old and a 6-year-old were well-protected in these crash tests.

The Kia Carnival is fitted with lower ISOFIX anchorages and top tether anchorages for all seating positions in the second row and outboard seats in the third row. However, there are no top tether anchorages or ISOFIX anchorages in the centre seating position in the third row. Therefore, it is not recommended to install a child seat in this position.

Kia Carnival Safety Assist Test

The Kia Carnival scored 82% or 13.25 points out of 16 in the ANCAP safety assist test. This means that the car's safety assist features are not as effective as those of cars with higher ratings.

The Carnival is fitted with a range of safety assist features, including autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane support system (LSS), and speed limit assistance system (SLAS).

The AEB system was tested in a variety of scenarios, and it was able to avoid or mitigate collisions in all of them. However, the LSS system was not as effective in all scenarios. It performed well in lane-keep assist (LKA) scenarios, but it performed only adequately in emergency lane-keeping (ELK) scenarios.

Kia Carnival Vulnerable Road User Protection

The Kia Carnival received 68% or 36.91 points out of 56 in the ANCAP vulnerable road user protection test. This means that the car offers good or adequate protection to the head and legs of a pedestrian struck by the car, but the protection to the pelvis is mixed.

The bonnet of the Kia Carnival provided good/adequate protection to the head of a struck pedestrian over most of its surface. The AEB system is capable of detecting and reacting to vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.

The AEB system offered adequate performance in tests of its effectiveness in pedestrian test scenarios, with good performance recorded in many daylight and night-time scenarios. However, the AEB system does not react to vulnerable road users in reverse (AEB Backover) or turning scenarios. In cyclist test scenarios, the AEB system offered adequate performance.

Kia Carnival Safety Features

The Kia Carnival sets an impressive standard for safety with its array of advanced features. The Forward Collision Avoidance-Assist with Pedestrian Detection actively prevents potential collisions by identifying both vehicles and pedestrians ahead. Meanwhile, the Driver Attention Warning keeps you focused by detecting signs of drowsiness or distraction.

As you navigate the road, the Lane Departure Warning ensures you stay in your lane, and the Lane Keeping Assist gently guides you back if you begin to drift. The Lane Following Assist takes it a step further, helping you remain centred within your lane.

Enhancing your visibility, the High Beam Assist automatically toggles between high and low beams to avoid blinding others. When parking, the Rear View Monitor with Dynamic Parking Guidance lends a hand.
