Whether you’re an experienced driver or a pedestrian, it is extremely important to follow the rules and regulations on the roads of Pune, India. The city has quickly becomes one of the most popular destinations for young adults looking for a steady career and this has led to an increase in population and traffic as well. With working individuals earning more, spending on a vehicle has become easier. This means there are a lot more vehicles – 2-wheelers and cars – on the road. But with more traffic comes more violations and with that comes more fines. So, here is a look at the e-Challan system in Pune and how it functions in the city.
With the introduction of the e-Challan system, paying fines for any traffic violations in Pune has become so much more easier. If you are new to the city and want to learn about their rules and regulations, you can visit the Pune City Traffic Police website – https://www.punepolice.gov.in/TRAFFICBRANCH and get all the information you need. The traffic police in the city collect the fines levied on the offenders either through an online portal or through an offline process. They also control and maintain the traffic on the roads in Pune to ensure that every driver and pedestrian is safe.
There are a number of ways you can make an e-Challan payment and we will discuss this in detail here. One of the easiest ways to make the payment is through an online portal. There are quite a few but the most reliable ones include the official Maharashtra State website – https://mahatrafficechallan.gov.in/payechallan/PaymentService.htm. Once you enter this page, all you have to enter is the vehicle number and the last 4 numbers of the chassis or engine. You can even choose to enter the challan number to gain access to the challan details. Another, more popular mode of e-Challan payment is through the PayTM mobile application.
For those people who are not familiar with the online method of payment, the e-Challan can also be paid offline in a number of simple ways:
In order to register a complaint with the Pune City Traffic Police online, you can either visit their Facebook page, Twitter account, or WhatsApp your complaint as a text message to 8975283100. This service is available 24×7.
While the population in Pune keeps increasing, it becomes harder for the police to monitor and control traffic on every road and street. Therefore, the city has setup some rules that, if followed, will help lower the rate of violations, accidents, and incidents. Some of the most serious penalties are listed here:
Underage Driving: Any driver who takes control of a vehicle must be at least 18 years and possess a valid driving license. If the driver is not 18 years old, they are liable to pay a fine of Rs. 300 and could lead to more severe punishment.
Driving Over The Speed Limit: This is one of the biggest issues in Pune as the roads are quite exceptional as compared to other parts of the country. A driver, if caught over-speeding, is fined Rs. 300. If the passenger is responsible for the driver speeding, they are fined Rs. 200.
Driving While Intoxicated: It is a known fact that you should not drink and drive and Pune follows that rule strictly. Anyone who is caught driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or any drug, will be fined heavily and could face some amount of jail time as well.
Driving a Vehicle That Produces Excess Pollution: Today, pollution is considered a serious problem in India and Pune is looking to control that as much as they possibly can. If a vehicle is violating the pollution standards of the city, the owner of the vehicle will be fined Rs. 500.
Listed as one of the top 10 most populated cities in India, Pune requires constant monitoring when it comes to traffic. To combat the worsening traffic conditions, the Pune City Traffic Police and the Pune Municipal Corporation have worked together to install a total of 1363 CCTV cameras across the cities. They are distributed across all the major and most congested areas of the city as well as the less-populated areas equally to ensure that the police have complete surveillance across the city. Along with CCTV cameras, the Pune City Traffic Police have installed speed guns to reduce over-speeding significantly.
An e-Challan has replaced the need for the paper challan that was used about 6 years ago. Ever since October 2013, the e-Challan has been used by Traffic Police across the country and is an effective and efficient way to levy fines on offenders. When a rule is broken, the offender receives an SMS with the e-Challan number and the details of the offence. They have 60 days, after the e-Challan has been issued, to make the payment online or in some other way they choose.
When you have an e-Challan to pay and you don’t have the time to do it in person, you can use the online process to do so. Here are the steps to pay your e-Challan in Pune:
You can even choose to make the payment through the PayTM App on your smartphone. Here are the steps to make a successful payment:
