Effective Surveillance

The state of Tamil Nadu uses technology to its advantage which is a helpful way to keep traffic in control at all times. One of the most effective methods to maintain control is through the use of CCTV cameras. These cameras not only record ever vehicle that crosses it, but it catches anyone trying to break the law and reports it to the authorities. Coimbatore City Police and Tamil Nadu Police have installed hundreds of these CCTV cameras across the city in an effort to completely stop congestion and violations in traffic.

What is an e-Challan and how it works?

The e-Challan system was first introduced in October, 2013 and replaced the paper challan system used to hand out fines to law breakers on the roads. It works by combining state-of-the-art technology and the Traffic Police of the city services. The ANPR camera records a violation and then send a screen grab to the closest police control room. A computer in the control room then prepares a receipt with all the details of the violation. The receipt also has a bar code and a payment link which can be used for instant payment. All the servers in the control rooms have access to RTO and NIC servers and can therefore get information for all the offenders. The receipt will then be sent to the mobile number registered with these servers. An offender can make the payment for the e-Challan through the link sent on their mobile, through the Post Office, or through any of the websites that allow payments for e-Challans.
