Audi Q8 e-tron

The Audi Q8 e-tron is equipped with a dual-motor drive with standard Quattro all-wheel drive and a single-speed transmission.

The 50 Quattro version has a battery with a capacity of 95 kWh and generates 340 hp and 664 Nm, achieving 0-100 km/h in 6.0 seconds. The 55 Quattro has a larger 114 kWh battery producing 408 hp and the same 664 Nm, cutting the sprint to 5.6 seconds. Both versions are electronically limited to 200 km/h.

On Indian roads, ride comfort is the highlight. The adaptive air suspension swallows potholes with stunning composure and can lift the vehicle to 226mm ground clearance when required. Steering ratio has been revised to 14.6:1, which makes it more agile than previous e-tron versions, although the SUV's 2.6-tonne mass is felt when cornering.

Both variants have the same luxury features, the key difference being the battery size and range.

Q8 e-tron 50 Quattro

Priced at ₹1.15 Crore, this variant uses a 95 kWhbattery and offers a range of up to 491 km WLTP. It provides DC fast charging up to 150 kW with a good city-focused performance. This variant is suitable for buyers driving mostly within an urban area or shorter distances between cities.

Q8 e-tron 55 Quattro

At ₹1.27 Crore, the 55 Quattro gets a 114 kWh battery and offers up to 582 km WLTP range. It supports the quick 170 kW DC charging and provides quicker acceleration. This is the perfect option for people who travel a lot on highways.

Both variants feature adaptive air suspension, a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system, Valona leather seats with massage and ventilation, panoramic sunroof, Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus, 360-degree camera and 4-zone climate control. The standard set includes a 22 kW AC home charger.

Heavy AC usage during summers can degrade the range by 10 - 15%. Regenerative braking that can be adjusted via paddles is beneficial for gaining energy in city traffic.

• 170 kW DC fast charging: 10–80% in 31 minutes

For highway travel, every 300-350km should be planned for charging, which should provide a comfortable buffer.

The Audi Q8 e-tron keeps the subtle luxury design of Audi and adds aerodynamic efficiency. The redesigned Singleframe grille has active shutters that help improve airflow management. The new 2D Audi rings and connecting light bar make for a modern signature. Digital Matrix LED headlights have the ability to project lane guidance and warning symbols directly on the road.

The SUV measures 4915 mm in length and 1976 mm in width, riding on 20-inch alloy wheels, which are standard. Optional 21-inch Audi Sport wheels are available. At the back, there is a continuous light strip with LEDs on the width, which is accompanied by a revised diffuser, which contributes to a 0.27 drag coefficient. Colour choices include Glacier White, Mythos Black, Chronos Grey, Magnet Grey, Plasma Blue, Soneira Red, Madeira Brown, Siam Beige and Manhattan Grey.

Inside, the Audi Q8 e-tron ensures a benchmark build quality and ergonomic clarity. The triple-screen layout consists of a 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit Plus, a 10.1-inch upper information display and an 8.6-inch lower climate control screen with haptic feedback.

Valona leather upholstery is standard with interior themes in Okapi Brown, Pearl Beige or Black. Front seats have heating, ventilation and massage functions. Acoustic glass provides exceptional cabin isolation and makes it one of the quietest SUVs in its class. Practicality is good with 569 litres of rear boot space and a 62 litre front trunk for charging cables. The almost flat rear floor accommodates three adults with ease. 

The Audi Q8 e-tron has a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and 8 airbags as standard. The high-voltage battery is contained in a crash-protected frame and automatically disconnects in severe impacts. Audi Pre-Sense Basic tightens the seatbelts and closes windows in case of imminent collisions. Lane departure warning gives the corrective steering input, while the 360-degree camera with park assist plus makes manoeuvres in the city easy.

The integrated brake control system helps achieve faster brake pressure build-up, which helps improve stopping distances. Electronic stability control has off-road and all-road modes for different Indian surfaces. ISOFIX mounts are available on the rear seats and the front passenger seat.

The Audi Q8 e-tron positions itself as the "luxury-first" electric SUV in India, with ride quality and refinement coming first, followed by extreme design statements. In India, the fact that Audi is providing a 22 kW AC charger as standard gives it a practical ownership advantage.

BMW iX

The iX has a better claimed range and a bold interior design. However, the Audi Q8 e-tron offers a more traditional feel of an SUV with better ride isolation and familiar ergonomics.

Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV

The EQE SUV is more about digital presentation with its Hyperscreen. The Audi Q8 e-tron counters with better practicality in the rear seats and a more intuitive layout of physical controls.

The Audi Q8 e-tron is an evolution of the classic luxury SUV formula with the addition of electric power, but it comes with some trade-offs.

The Audi Q8 e-tron is for buyers who want a luxury SUV first and an EV second. It does not scream for attention with some radical styling, nor does it chase extreme performance numbers. Instead, it provides comfort, isolation and usability on a day-to-day basis at a very high standard. The adaptive air suspension, quiet cabin and generous space make it especially suitable for Indian urban conditions.

However, if you prefer sharp handling or futuristic digital theatrics, then alternatives such as the BMW iX or Mercedes EQE SUV might be more to your liking. For those who are coming from a large premium SUV and are looking for a smooth electric transition, the Audi Q8 e-tron is still one of the most complete and sensible luxury EV choices in India today.
