The pre-facelift Maruti Baleno used a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produced 89.7 PS and 113 Nm. The new facelift gets a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Z12E engine with Idle Start-Stop and Dual VVT. It produces 82.93 PS and 112.4 Nm. So, the new Baleno has around 7 PS less power, while the torque has dropped only slightly. Maruti has focused more on better fuel efficiency and lower emissions with the new engine rather than higher power.

The new Z12E S-CNG engine makes 69.75 PS and 101.8 Nm in CNG mode. In petrol mode, it produces 82.93 PS. This means the new CNG version has less power but slightly more torque. Torque has increased from 98.5 Nm to 101.8 Nm. The higher torque comes at lower engine speeds.
