In order to align with the dynamic market conditions, Honda has revised its future roadmap—shifting its focus from pure electric to hybrid vehicles. Starting in 2027, Honda plans to introduce 13 hybrid models globally with an aim to command a share of 61% sales between hybrid and electric by the year 2030. Read on to know more about the Honda future roadmap.
Honda hybrid strategy explained
As per the current plan laid out, Honda plans to launch 13 new hybrid electric vehicles, starting in 2027. These upcoming hybrid models will make use of Honda’s new-gen hybrid powertrain, which are going to include two focused on fuel efficiency and one on performance. Honda claims that its next-generation e:HEV hybrid powertrain will benefit from multiple advancements like a new platform and newly-developed electric AWD powertrains, helping in achieving 10% improvement in the overall fuel efficiency.

On the other hand, Honda also claims to reduce the cost of the e:HEV powertrain despite all these developments. As per Honda, the new-generation e:HEV powertrains could see a cost reduction of 50% and 30% compared to the ones seen on hybrid models of 2018 and 2023, respectively.

Serving the North American markets, Honda is also set to develop a new hybrid powertrain aimed at performance for large vehicles. This new hybrid powertrain is said to feature powerful driving performance, high towing capability and high environmental performance. It is worth mentioning that the new Honda hybrid vehicles will also feature the new “H” logo, which was earlier released exclusively for electric vehicles only.
New-gen Honda EVs incoming
Honda remains committed to bring its new range of EVs—named 0 Series—to the international markets next year. Honda will offer advanced SDV technology along with Level-3 ADAS, defining their exclusivity in the international EV space. Honda forecasts that the EV share in sales by the year 2030 is expected to fall below 20%, a figure that seemed attainable in previous sales projections for the said timeline.
