It’s official: Genesis India launch under evaluation

Hyundai India, country’s second largest carmaker, has officially revealed its intent to bring the Genesis brand to India. Genesis is Hyundai’s premium brand that is quite prominent in North American and South Korean markets. With the expanding aspirations of the Indian customers, Hyundai aims to enhance its reach to the increasing premium car buyers across the country. Is Genesis coming to India?

Confirming several rumours spreading around, Hyundai officially confirmed its intent to bring the Genesis brand to India, following the recently announced financial year report. In the past few months, we have seen several reports claiming the Genesis India launch possibility and a recent trademark of the brand’s flagship model—the Genesis GV80 Coupe—only reinforced those claims further.

We assume that Hyundai’s plan to bring the Genesis brand to India has reached an advanced stage. The financial year results also reveal the designated person overlooking the Genesis project in India.

Genesis India launch timeline and expected models

Since the brand Genesis is expected to begin its India innings with CBU products, we can expect its early models to hit the market as early as later this year. Further down the line, Genesis is likely to locally assemble its models in India, in order to stay competitive in the luxury automotive landscape.

Like other luxury brands, Genesis’ focus is likely to be SUVs, which is further reinforced by the trademark of the GV80 Coupe SUV. Needless to say, the carmaker will also consider other models that could include the G80 and G90 sedans and all-electric GV60 coupe SUV.
