Outline

Tata car sales took a hit on the domestic front, with total sales slipping by 6%. The drop comes from a slowdown in domestic sales for the passenger vehicle segment, which has lost some pace in recent months. In contrast, commercial vehicle sales are still steady, with demand holding up well. But it’s not all negative. On the export front, Tata's story looks much stronger. The company recorded a sharp 73.19% growth in overseas markets, showing solid traction outside India.

Tata Motors’ international passenger vehicle business has been picking up—this July, they shipped 654 units, up from just 229 last year in the same month. That’s a pretty noticeable jump. But in the Indian market, Tata sales took a hit. Domestic sales dropped 12%, with 39,521 units sold. When you add domestic and export sales together, the total numbers are down 11%, at 40,175 units.

The commercial segment paints a different picture. Domestic sales grew 4%, reaching 26,436 units, while shipments abroad jumped 57% to 2,524 units. Overall, combined commercial sales rose 7%, from 27,042 units last July to nearly 29,000 this year. So, while passenger vehicle sales in India have slowed, Tata’s commercial vehicles and export growth are telling something else.

For Tata Motors’ MoM and YoY performance over the past months this year, you can refer to the figures in the table above. The significant decline in passenger vehicle sales over the month is quite clear, both on a YoY and MoM basis. However, export sales have followed a non-uniform trend. The highlight is July 2025, which also recorded the best export sales so far this year.
