Outline

Kia India has revealed the first official images of the Sorento, ahead of its India launch on 4 September. The Sorento will become Kia's new flagship ICE-powered SUV in India. Local production has already started at Kia's Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh, with the first India-built unit rolling off the line on the same day.

The Sorento will be Kia India's first three-row ICE SUV and its first hybrid SUV with all-wheel drive. It will also be the first Kia model globally to feature the brand's new Live Generative AI-powered assistant. Pre-bookings are now open through Kia dealerships and the company's official website.

Upcoming Kia Sorento India-spec design

Kia Sorento

The India-spec Kia Sorento follows the same design as the model sold globally since 2023. Unlike the newer Seltos, it does not use Kia's latest Opposites United design language. At the front, the Sorento features Kia's Tiger Nose grille, large vertical LED headlamps and Y-shaped LED daytime running lights. The bumper has a wide air intake, LED fog lamps and vertical aero vents.

The side profile features satin trim on the front fenders and a chrome window line that tapers towards the rear. The SUV also has dual-tone alloy wheels, which are expected to be 19-inch units, although Kia has not confirmed the size yet. At the rear, the Sorento has inverted L-shaped LED tail lamps, a two-tone bumper and a roof spoiler.

Kia Sorento dimensions

On dimensions, the India-spec Sorento is expected to carry over unchanged from the global model, measuring 4,815mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,700mm in height, with a 2,815mm wheelbase.

Kia Sorento cabin, features and the new Kia AI Assistant

The upcoming Kia Sorento cabin features a connected dual-screen setup for the infotainment system and instrument cluster. Both screens are expected to measure around 12.3 inches. Unlike the Seltos and Syros, it does not have a separate AC screen. Instead, a dual-purpose panel lets the driver switch between climate and media controls.

The biggest highlight is the Kia AI Assistant, powered by Live Generative AI. It supports natural conversations and can provide updated information rather than fixed commands. The India-spec Sorento will be the first Sorento globally and the first Indian production car to feature this technology.

Other expected features include wireless charger, adjustable driver and co-driver seats, ventilated front seats with a possible massage function, digital IRVM, powered tailgate, multiple speakers, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, multiple airbags, parking sensor, and ADAS. Kia is expected to offer the Sorento in 6- and 7-seat layouts.

Kia Sorento engine and powertrain options

Kia has confirmed two powertrain options for the India-spec Sorento: a strong hybrid with all-wheel drive (AWD) and a diesel engine. The hybrid uses a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine and an electric motor, producing 238hp and 380Nm. The diesel is a 2.0-litre engine that makes 202hp and 441Nm. It is the same engine used in the Kia Carnival. Both versions are expected to use automatic transmissions. The hybrid AWD setup will be a first in this SUV segment in India.

Kia Sorento production and expected price in India

Kia has confirmed that Sorento production has started at its Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh.  The Sorento is expected to be priced between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 35 lakh, ex-showroom, thanks to its high level of local production. It will rival the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron and Jeep Meridian. Kia will reveal the Sorento's price and variant details on 4 September 2026.
